I noticed in various threads that you mentioned trying different
painterly-effect plugins. I don't know if you have these or not (I haven't
been keeping up in the group too well lately), but they're free and
interesting/useful/fun:

Paint Engine:

Make sure you read the installation instructions that are right there with
the download link so that the presets will show up for you.

Xero Plugins:
http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/
There are a bunch of free sets that include some nice filters for sketch and
painterly effects (eg. Lithograph, Abstractor, Illustrator, and more)

I have this one. Really cool! :) But the window is so small, I can't enlarge
the filter's dialog box, so it's like I have to try one, undo, try another,
etc. But I do use this one from time to time, along with the AmphiSoft
simplifier filter (from their Plugin Pack). That is also a nice "paint" type
filter.

I've never heard of this one. I'm going to try these out.

Thank you for the links! :-) I didn't have the Paint Engine link anymore and
now that I do I bookmarked it. They seem to have a place where people put up
presets, so I might try some new ones.
