You got it in one Joelle, in my opinion oil paints are applied fairly
thickly so no canvas texture is visible. I think to much has been made of
canvas texture in this discussion. Just my opinion though.

My mother in law took up painting with oils in her later years, she sure
applied the paint very thickly, the strokes were very much like yours.
You couldn't see the background at all.
Deep Paint is good for textured oil paint.
