Camera shopping question
|
|
|
|
I have narrowed down my options in my price range to these 2 cameras.
The Canon is about $15 dollars more including the accessories.
Olympus C7000 7MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom -
Canon Powershot A610 5MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom
I will be wanting to do photos of lots of small things like small wild
flowers as well as hopefully some birds. What do you think?
| |
|
|
Consider the Canon PowerShot S3 IS. It is just under $500.00
6.0 MP

I am no expert on this but I am an expert on buying things that I wish I had
waited and done something different. I would suggest you study all you can
about cameras and what you want them to do B4 you jump. RAW is something you
should look into. You will always go through life thinking you should have
waited (especially in this area) But I strongly suggest you wait until after
you do the course and then ask advice . It would be a shame to rush out and
buy one now only to find you needed an upgrade 2 months down the road. Take
your time then jump. The Jim who jumped to soon

I think you are right. It's really kind of hard when you don't even know
the vocabulary. I think I need to put this on the shelf for awhile.

Perhaps the price of what you're looking at could make a purchase now
worthwhile. If the price of the Oly C-7000 is low enough (say around $250
USD) then with its features, it'd be a good choice for starting off in the
directions you wish to go.
Two macro modes including a wide angle only .8 in distance Super Macro.
RAW, TIFF or JPG formats. Full manual control as well as various Auto
modes. Optical viewfinder. Uses xD memory cards. But it's not a current
product.
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_s...sp?id=1136&fl=4
The Canon A610 is a current product, but somewhat less capable, smaller
image sensor and no RAW format.
The Canon S3 IS is a current (and new) product, is very capable, has 6
megapixel sensor, *12X* optical zoom and two very nice macro modes.
I have an S2 IS which has a 5 megapixel sensor. It is very similar to the
S3 IS. It's very good with macro and super macro. Neither have RAW
format. My S2 is very easy on battery life and has full manual settings if
you desire to use them. I'd think that the S3 improves these as it's a year
newer.
At Circuit City:
The Canon A-610 is $211 USD
The Canon S2 IS is $350 USD
The Canon S3 IS is $499 USD
The Canon EOS 5D is $2999.99 USD (threw this in for a grin is all ;) BUT,
it DOES RAW format!!!)
The only place I see (brick n mortar store) that is still selling the
Olympus C-7000 Zoom is Wal-Mart. It's listed there for $344 USD.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...duct_id=3342531
Personally, for the combination of features including RAW format, I would
choose the C-7000 of the two you list. There are a lot of cameras in your
apparent budget range to choose from. And even though the Camedia series
of Olympus cameras is on the way out, that one looks like a good one. It is
one of the later models in the 'C' series.
If you can get your hands on a C-7000 Zoom for a low price, I'd say do it.
The only thing I can't vouch for is the sensor image quality. I haven't
seen any sample images from that camera.
HTH some,
McG.

There is an auction in ebay called olympusauctions. Directly from Olympus
and you can get some really good buys on new stuff with damaged box. I have
been getting lenses from them and they have all the camera's too. They are
fantastic to deal with and shipping is VERY fast.

*week*
Is the second I buy trough net, the first one was a Panasonic FZ1.
My problem was to choose the right one for my needs and not to pay too much.
I was waiting for Pana FZ7 but the opinions were a little bad because of the
noise even at 80 ISO so I decided for on older that was cheaper because the
S3 IS was released.
So.We can try to discuss the problems with the cameras here (as far they are
concerned with the improvements PSP is able to make).

I checked out the auctions last week, but didn't see anything useful for my
E500. Did I miss some stuff? I'd have thought some of the 4/3 lenses
might show up.

I was only looking for lenses in olympus auctions that I knew worked well
with my panny. All the stuff in there is Olympus brand. I got a macro,
teleconversion and wide angle, all at excellent prices and have given me
very good results on the Panasonic FZ30. There are other auctions, try
doing a search for the one you are looking for and it might turn some up??

I do that already, one ahead of ya there :) I guess these 'F' mount lenses
aren't all that popular yet. At least some are starting to show up.
