Fantastic, Gail! It looks snake-like in some ways. Is that a
coincidence? ;-)) You're making me want to re-read my help
files again so I can figure out what I'm doing instead of relying
on my hit/miss technique :-)

Looks great, it's like an exotic spiral staircase you'd find in one of
Antoni Gaudi's buildings!

How gorgeous! Whatever you did was exactly the right thing to do. We're
having a fractal orgy here.

Work through the Help files, Michelle. That should get you going.

I have, but not enough times, Barb. Once I step into the 3rd
dimension, my brain had a problem grasping the concept. I'm
going to try again, though. With most things, if I don't give
up, I eventually get it :-)

Hi Gail,

I generally only lurk in this group, as I don't do much in the
way of original graphic stuff, and caught your mention of the
Light! filter.

Lighting effects are one thing I like to use for some of the
stuff I do so I dowloaded the Trial and gave it a quick run
(about 10 minutes) trying to do something similar to their
before/after image. Surprisingly, it actually works well (once
you figure out you need to use a selection to put the pre-set
lighting effect behind the guy!). It's kind of pricey, but with
its hundreds of pattern presets I'm going to give it a good run
and it could pay for itself easily on a project I've just started
for a client.

That's the value of lurking - you never know when you'll pick up
really helpful info! Thanks for the info on this filter.

Regards,

JoeB

Not a coincidence - I used the same .xep as the snaky fractal I'd posted ;-)
I use the Help file when I run into a control that I'm not too familiar
with, but if I didn't do hit-or-miss, I wouldn't know where to even start
looking in Help. I rarely start from scratch (in some respects, that would
be similar to trying to write a formula in some of the other frac apps), and
in fact the author encourages using the .xeps that are provided. There are
hundreds of them, and the cool thing about fracs is how very, very small
changes in even a single setting can produce wildly varying results.

Thanks, Joëlle! I love Gaudi's buildings, though I have only seen them in
photos.

Thanks, Jeanne! It's been really fun to get into fracs again ;-)

Hi Joe,

I could have done similar lighting right in the fractal program, but usually
I don't know exactly what final effects I'd like for any particular fractal
until I bring it into PSP for tweaking/playing. I bought Light! to use with
photos, and hadn't thought of using it with fractals - so it was a very
happy surprise to find out what neat effects it can have on the fracs.

A fractal is a shape that exhibits self-similarity at different
scales - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal
