I am new as I am sure you can tell and really enjoy learning and being
inspired from this group. This is my photo 'painting" done more or less from
this tutorial, I used only PSPX, Paint Engine and Amphisoft's Simplifier , both
free filters.

Very nice it is too.
Welcome Doris.
Isn't it wonderful when you've finished a tutorial and everything looks just
right!

As I am a newbie also, my opinion might not be worth much, but I think
you made a very pleasing picture. The choice of frame is very good
as it seems to complement the picture.

I have never tried to do one of these type pics, how long does it take
to make one like this?

Doris, this is lovely! I'm so pleased that some of my stuff has been an
encouragement ;-))

I just learned something from that tutorial, too. The author talks about
some texturing methods in Painter that I'm going to try.

I took me hours, but I do a lot of trial and error and am very slow when I
am learning something.

It often takes me that long, or longer. Even if others think that this kind
of image is a result of 'lazy person's filter clicking', (which of course is
how some people do it), I get the personal satisfaction of knowing that
it's more than that ;-)

I tried this tutorial but it must be for another version of PSP because I could not find some of the things the tutorial called for. It still looked pretty good though! Thanks for the tip. I love your frame you used. Did you make it too or did you use a tutorial? Please share! <<big grin>>!

Karin, I only used PSPX and 2 free plugins. I did not do the second part of the tutorial. I made the matting using Image>> Add Borders and fiddling with drop shadows.
The frame is the gold frame that came with PSP. I colorized it in Adjust<< Hue and Saturation>> by using the H and S numbers I got by clicking on colors in the picture. I love Colorize. 8-)
You can download Paint Engine from here:

http://www.fantasticmachines.com/html/paint_engine.htm

And Amphisoft's Simplifier from here. It is in the Free Pack:
