Yes, I too would say it's intended for text and other things
'protruding' from things like plaques. I was kidding a little,
really, because the full-blown effect looks so crude and
oldfashioned. Something we might have liked in the early graphics
era when everything was impressive :-) In subtle settings it's still
good for a few things and I know I did inspect it at some time. But
it's been overtaken by so many other effects that can do the same
(depth, protrusion).

Tanja answered my comment as well and I said just about the same thing to
her. We have so many other effects that it's not at all essential that I
understand chisel!
