I have been lurking for awhile. I thought I would try sending something in. I hope I have done this right. This was done in PSP x and I used the kaleidoscope filter and then put in the face.

Hi Valerie,

First, welcome to the group, and I think it's quite a cute image!

I'm not sure how you posted it, but it did not come through on my
newsreader (XNews) the way jpg images usually do. That is,
usually I will see the image in the newsreader underneath the
message (called "inline"), but in this case I had to actually
save the attachment and then open it in an image viewer. Perhaps
someone who uses Outlook Express will chime in and tell you how
to post your images inline.

Also, your posts come with both your text message and the same
message in HTML (the coding used for web pages). Outlook Express
will have some option that allows you to turn off HTML and only
post text. You should turn off the HTML as it is not needed in a
text group and it makes messages look really messy.

I only bring these things up because you might find it makes
things more convenient in future. Look forward to seeing more of
your images!

Regards,

JoeB

Hello Valerie, welcome to the group. Yes, you did it right, though
as you can see not every newsreader (other than Outlook Express)
likes html posts, so attaching images is what's usually done so all
can see. Nice doodle :-)

Joe... it's the other way round: inline is html, as you were seeing
here :-)

Here's just one of many sites on attaching images in OE:
http://www.gwi.net/support/email/em...oattach-oe.html

I usually point people out to places like these, as they show things
in screenshots.

Thanks so much and I will attach from now on. Do I not use the HTML and only
use plain text.?

Yes, you should use only plain text. Using HTML in newsgroup posts
makes them larger and increases the storage requirement. This can
lower the retention time of posts. Also HTML and Javascript can be
used to transmit all sorts of nasties that nobody needs or wants.
Besides, I just disable the display of your HTML in my newsreader
so it does nothing for me.

One other small piece of advice if you don't mind. In a case like
yours where many people have said pretty much the same thing, i.e.
welcome to the group (and let me add my welcome), it's OK to
answer with just one post saying something like "Thank you all for
your kind welcome" instead of answering each person individually. It
is still a polite response but saves the time of regular participants
who sometimes read hundreds of posts a day and don't need any more
posts without much content of general interest.

Oh, what utter nonsense is this from the lady who sniffs out fake
email addresses and posts about them in a group for graphics :-)

I'm a regular here, and I don't mind a few 'thank you's' in this
group. It's unlike the version (X, 9, 8, older) groups where people
share mostly knowledge (which *would* be nice if happening here as
well, agreed). Sharing graphics is sharing something personal,
specially when one does it for the very first time. Personal means
interaction, a word or two extra won't hurt - not in a group that is
as quiet as this one.
