I don't think Perils of Pauline originated the cliche. I think it just
tapped into the intriguing situation of damsel in distress awaiting rescue
by a handsome hero. Did you find a DVD? If it hasn't been produced yet, it
will probably come along eventually.

Actually, I discovered that there was a serial prior to Pauline's that
sort of set the stage for that series. I haven't found a DVD of the
series yet, but I've found a tape of the 1947 movie. There was also a
more recent movie, played more for the sillyness than the cliff
hangers. I've see different opinions about the recent movie.

When you venture into the realms of film, TV and pop culture in general you
have entered my area of innocence. I'm not very knowledgeable there.
