Author Challenge: Photo manips with pure PSP only
Lori Davis

2005-06-23, 7:40 pm

Thought it might be nice to offer a challenge. If anyone wants to play,
please have a go.

No prizes, no judging, and only one simple rule: Take a photo and manipulate
it using only PSP - no plugins, no outside clipart. (And since there are no
judges, the only one enforcing the rule is the challengee him/herself.)

If you kept track, let folks know what you did. I'll start off in a reply to
this post with something I did just for fun this morning.

That looks great Lori. Like the effect. Never thought of using the eraser
that way. Thanks for the inspiration, it will go on my list of to do and
learn stuff...Pat

Who could get tired of a darling puss? (Our dog is named Max, BTW.) This
is an excellent challenge and your manip is very effective.

How could anyone ever tire of cat photos? Yes, okay, I know it
happens... but it should be against the law, really :-) I must say I
don't remember ever having seen the actual photo of your Max.

Neat, Joëlle. I like this much better than the canned motion trail effects
you can get with a plugin.

Lori

P.S. I know her name is kinda misleading, but Little Max is a girl. ("Max"
short for "Maxine".) She's named after another brown tabby we had who passed
away a couple years ago; I'd alternate between calling the older cat "Max"
and "Queen Maxine" (and sometimes even - don't laugh now - "Queen Maxine
Jelly Bean"). Little Max is always "Little Max", although we vary the
intonation sometimes. :)

I don't have the original with me right now, Joske, but I'll post it later
this evening or over the weekend. I think you've seen the one where it looks
like she's screaming but she's actually yawning. That one is quite funny,
and I have a scrapbook layout that showcases it.

Thanks Lori, I enjoyed playing!
Apologies to Maxine for getting her gender wrong.
We have had to stop owning cats as the traffic around here has become too
dangerous.
3 of our cats were killed by maniac drivers.
Apart from my passion for PSP I am also passionate about my garden, so
keeping an 'indoor cat' would never work.
I enjoy looking at everyone else's cats though plus our children prefer cats
to children of their own, so we have 6 furry grandchildren!
:-))

Maureen:

This really caught my eye. I like the effect. Do you know if the
Topography is available in PSP 8 or just 9 ? (I don't know which version you
are using) I don't have it on this computer to check, but I'd really like
to use it in my sister's wedding album. Absolutely gorgeous !

Thanks for the inspiration -- I like these kinds of challenges -- you get to
see what wonderful effects are out there that you (I) haven't used yet !

I think your images look much nicer on the web page, the surrounding colour

Surprised? No, not anymore. If I stare at an image long enough,
some critter eventually will appear, begging for 15 minutes of fame.

Thanks very much, Jeanne. I liked all of your entries. Glad you got into it!

I'm going to have to take my time looking at most of today's other
postings, though. (Darn dial-up!)

Thanks, Lori. It was a good challenge. Makes you think harder about what
you already have rather than lust for something more! I think dial-up is
cruel and inhuman treatment. Cable is a luxury I don't mind paying for! Of
course, it's not available to everyone. I would imagine fast internet will
be cheap and widely available in the future, let's hope the NEAR future.

Good work, Jeanne. They all showed for me except this biggy.

Ach! Heaven knows, bamboo really can get quite scary! You've driven the
point home all right. ;)

Interesting, Maureen. Fur is another effect that can be used sort of
like this. (I think I once made a starfield with Rough Leather, too.)

Probably the thing I use UDFs for the most is embossing. This is a very
nice subtle color embossing effect, Maureen.

I hope to encourage users to explore these filters more. For one thing,
they come with PSP and most will be amazed at what they can create with
them :)

That's great Maureen. It looks like a tapestry fabric. You're giving me
ideas for working on backgrounds. Thanks...Pat

She is a pretty cat and looks as if she's rather bright too. Thanks
for posting, Lori, I had indeed not seen her before. I looked in the
scrap group if I'd missed out the layouts you mentioned, but you may
have meant another time or place.

Oh, and I will not ask what her worst behavior is... if we had a
chat group here I could relate stories that would make anyone think
twice before getting a cat :-)

Thank you! Our little dog Mas is very good for petting too. He stays very
close to us. Has to have a person within reach.
