Author How can I "soften" image edges?
Steve

I want to modify an image so that it's edges (maybe 10% of the image width /
height) are "softened". i.e. made increasingly transparent. I am building a
collage using multiple images but do not want the "hard edged" effect of
simply overlapping.

I'm sure there must be a relatively easy way to do this but after several
hours of effort, I have come up empty.

Any help or suggestions?

Thanks, Steve

Feather the image...

Hi Jeno, Ah ha! So that's what feathering is for! I knew there had to be an
easy way. I have been trying to use mask layers but could not get the
desired effect.

Thanks, Steve

Sometimes a very soft eraser on a second layer helps.

Thanks for that link Spandex. Now I've played with masks and feathering a
little more, a black / white gradient on a mask layer gives me the effect I
was really after.

Thanks to all for help
