Author transparency?

Forgive me for being totally naive about this.
I am trying to place several images partly over each other, and need to
assign differing transparency to all, then arrange the layers in order.
Despite all tries I can't seem to get it done. What is the correct process?

The correct process is described briefly in Help > Contents >
Working with layers > Using layers with photos > To use layers with
photos. Please check it out and write back if you get stuck.

First of all, only place the request for help in a single newsgroup,
and the one that is most applicable.

Open all images to the workspace.

one by one, do a Cntrl C on an image, then switch focus to the main
image and do a Cntrl L (shown as upper case here, but actually lower)
to paste the new image as a layer.

Switch focus back to the main image and open the Layer Palette and
click and drag layers to the place in the stack where you need them.

We can only read your words, not your mind. When you post in the
Graphics group, the common assumption is that you are up to date
with PSP unless otherwise stated.

Please search http://www.psplinks.com/ to see many tutorials about
Collage.

There are two short tutorials on the page of the link below. The
second one may be useful to you. Basically, have each image on
its own layer and use the opacity slider in the layer palette on
each layer. Erase or use selections and delete to remove parts
of images that you don't want to keep.

You're welcome, and keep the link to the campratty page nearby.
It offers many tutorials, tips etc. Also, get familiar working
with layers as they are vital - and simple to use - if you want
to do any more than simple image processing.

JoeB
