Author Belated Introduction
Pegs

2005-10-12, 6:31 pm

Greetings, All!

I've been reading the Jasc/Corel NGs for a few years & posted some during
the v8 Beta. I'm familiar with so many names here because of this & I forgot
that you folks don't know me from Adam (or would that be Eve?) - instead, I
just jumped in to different discussions. Recently I've seen other people
introduce themselves first, so I thought I should do the same.

My name is Peggy, but was given the internet name of "Pegs" several years
ago (long story), so that's what I stick with. I build, sell & repair
computers from home (which is why I can post any time of the day or night).
The problem with working at home is that you're always at work.

I've been using PSP since v7, which is still my favorite, but I do like the
scripts in v8, as well as the ability to Clarify a selection. Hate the tool
bars, though. I'm trialling both v9 & vX right now & can't decide.

Here is my Home Page if you're interested http://www.pegs.citymax.com

and here is a link to the page showing what I've been doing for most of the
last 3 years (heavy loading due to many thumbnails)
http://www.pegs.citymax.com/page/page/367751.htm

Thanks for allowing me to participate here.

Hey, the Viking Kittens! I saved them too after they disappeared
from rathergood. Never knew why he took them down, but it was
probably a bandwidth issue as they're so popular.

Thanks for the welcome, Joske! :D

I LOVE the Viking Kittens! "Immigrant's Song" is one of my all time favorite
driving songs & the juxtaposition of that song with cute little kittens
dressed as Vikings cracks me up every time.

When I first put that on site, I didn't know where it had come from -
someone had sent it to me in e-mail. I need to take care of that, pronto.
Thanks for the reminder. :-O

Thank you, Joelle!

You have no idea how busy & no idea how many cute little cats we have, lol.
We do "volunteered for us" cat rescue. People keep dumping their cats here.
We are currently up to 24 (I think - hard to keep track) - NOT all inside!!!

At one time we had 47 cats & kittens. Siamese Rescue in Dallas (Texas)
helped us immensely then. Unfortunately, 6 months later, someone dumped 6
kittens in our backyard (sob) & they all started breeding (sob harder) so we
bought a humane trap & got them & their offspring "fixed" & their shots. Our
most recent "dumping" is Jack - for One Eyed Jack - a long haired tabby, who
is blind in one eye. He looks weird, but is the sweetest of all the cats. He
was dumped about 2 months ago.

If anyone is in the Houston area & would like a cat or 2 (dozen), give me a
holler!

To apply Clarify to a selection in PSP 7 do this:

1. Selections > Save to Alpha Channel to save the selection.
2. Selections > Select None.
3. Layers > Duplicate.
4. Effects > Enhance Photo > Clarify.
5. Selections > Load from Alpha Channel to recover the selection.
6. Selections > Invert to select what you don't want clarified.
7. Press the Delete key to get rid of what you don't want.
8. Selections > Invert to get the original selection back.

Cool!

The only times I've used Alpha Channels are when doing tutorials, which is
not very often. I'm also still afraid of masks, lol. Probably why v7 is
still my favorite. I experiment, but am still missing probably 2/3 of what's
available in the program. Little by little.

Thanks for the quick tut - I'll be saving it for future use (many).

Yup! You got me pegged! (grooooan). Y'all are just pikers, lol. I can think
of worse things to be than the "crazy cat lady" (and I probably am a few,
lololol).

Trust me, this isn't by choice. We found out the "no kill" shelters here
AREN'T (they euthanize after 60 days), so that's a no go. The few people who
asked about taking one home didn't want to let us check up on our "kids" &
one man offered to take all of them; when we asked why, he said he sells
them to the medical labs downtown for $15 each. Don't think so.

There's rarely more than 3 in one place at once (most of them are in the
backyard or in the garage), so it's a shock when they're all together, or
when counting them up.

It's still less than 47...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Lemme at him. God, let's hope Angela
doesn't read this. She'll probably jet down there and hunt him down
herself. She won't kill him, but I'll bet he could do the high notes at
the Vienna Boys Choir Christmas Concert.

;-))))))))))))))))

I only have three, but I think word is getting around that it's a pretty
nice kitty life at the Beachams - almost every day I come home and find 2 or
3 neighbor kitties sitting on my deck, sunning and peeking in the door to
see what's good for dinner. My own kitty kids look a tad smug, too...

Hi Pegs,
Enjoyed your site. I understand about the cats. We once had 34 outside. My
husband was a teacher then and the cafeteria ladies would give him leftovers
to feed the cats. The cats would hear him coming down the road after school
and the parade would begin! Fortunately, we live in a rural area ( why
people felt they could drop them off here) so no one else witnessed this! We
now have only 3 cats. Much better.

The only place that I know that has such a law is one town in Georgia.
Crime rate there has gone down quite a bit.

Incidently, Pegs, if you think of the Alpha channel as the 'Broom
Closet', where you stick stuff, out of sight until it's needed, you
won't be far off.

Masks? Just a way to paint with transparency, instead of color.

Yes, 3 is much better than 34, lol. That must have been quite a sight, to
have them all together. When we went from the 47 to 6 (I think) - our 2
original cats & a few we'd grown attached to - the house felt empty (in a
good way, lol). People would come over & say YOU HAVE SIX CATS!!! Why so
many??? I'd laugh. :-P Of course, it was shortly after that the six kittens
were dumped in the back yard & it started all over again. *sigh*

No need to blush, hon. You can't imagine how much *I* appreciate the time
you've put in over the years, helping so many of us learn the ins & outs of
PSP. :D

When I first started with PSP, I did a few effects & people asked me how I
did it. So, I wrote a few tutorials & put them on my site for ease of
access. I was going to upload more, but I had no idea how time consuming it
would be. It makes me that much more appreciative.

Thank you - really!!!

Nah, not quite that bad YET, but her refusal to sign off on the "concealed

Maybe it's the association of guns & masks that scares me, lol. ;-)

Thank you Jeanne, for the welcome & for the compliment! I really appreciate
it. :D

I was hesitant about posting the link since I use RealPlayer formatted files
all over my site & there was a discussion here not too long ago about how
awful RealPlayer is & to stay away from it. I like the format because I can
use RealProducer to turn a 3.5MB MP3 into a 200kb .rm file. I had to have
my Jukeboxes online, lol. The rest is just me showing off how far I've come
with PSP over the years. ;-)

I missed the music section, thanks for mentioning this, Gail,
Pegs, I forgot to mentioned I like your site. I explored a bunch
yesterday, but missed the jukebox link. Today, I have more time
since I spent yesterday vacuuming water out of my basement.
After 7 days of rain, I'm starting to think it's time to start

Allow me to quote from the article:

'KENNESAW, Ga - Several Kennesaw officials attribute a drop in
crime in the city over the past two decades to a law that
requires residents to have a gun in the house.

'"The crime rate wasn't that high to start with. It was 11
burglaries per 1,000 residents in 1981," he said.

According to the Kennesaw Police Department, the city's most
recent crime statistics show 243 property crimes per 100,000
residents in 1998, or .243 per 1,000.'

OK now folks, would you believe *any* statistics from these police
math geniuses?

Lead poisoning is a very understandable byproduct of packing
heat.

One learns to deal.

I didn't know lead poisoning stopped you being able to divide by
100. I thought only depleted uranium poisoning did that.

Thanks, Michelle. :D I hope you like the musical selections. One of these
years I'm going to finish digitizing my record, cassette & 8-track
collections, which is where the tunes came from. I was on a roll until I was
given Paint Shop Pro 7 for Christmas, a few years back. That was the end of
the converting. :-P

I can only imagine what you're going through right now. It used to flood
regularly where I grew up, but I've been fairly fortunate since. I did wake
up one morning with a tree in my bedroom, but that's a different subject.

Quote from a Dutch (ice) hockey commentator;

I suspect the hockey commentator was well read.

‘There are lies, damn lies - and statistics.’ is often attributed to Mark
Twain as he wrote it in his Autobiography. He claimed it to be a quote
from Disraeli. Now it is possible that Disraeli may have overheard it at a
hockey game.

Hockey dates back a long time. l.o.l.
I think, the commentator quotet Mark Twain, who quotet Disraeli.
(Altough, Disraeli may not be trough, Mark Twain heard the quote was
from a "great" statesman, and assumed it was Disraeli)

It's as original as it's silly :-) He was one of the first doing
flash animations with this simple concept.

Oh, I don't know if he'd want credits, that's not how I meant it. I
do know it's the best in the whole kitten series he did :-)

Chuckle :-) However, you may want to know that your PSP dollars now
fund the Ottawa Senators hockey games in a 20 year multi-million deal
that ends in 2016. See http://www.corelcentre.com/ and especially
http://www.corelcentre.com/building/history.aro. There is more info
and a photo here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corel_Centre.

I did like them :-) I'll have more time to explore this
week....my basement isn't flooded anymore <g>. Wow, you still
have your 8 tracks? I got rid of mine years ago and replaced the
ones I like with CD's. I love when the word 8-track comes up and
the younger people don't know what it is. Makes me feel so
young... not. LOL.

I think I may have temporarily fixed the flood problem... it was
a problem with a gutter, which I adjusted in the middle of the
downpour. It took several hours but the water stopped coming in.
Someone should have told the person who fixed it before that it's
supposed to be aimed *away* from the house. Oh wait, it was my
husband and I already did tell him ;-).

You woke up with a tree in your bedroom? Oh wow! Thank goodness
you weren't hurt. That must have been some experience :-(

BTW, I've been having the same problem with Outlook. I'm sure
I've missed posts. Sometimes they show up late, or days later,
or not at all. I assume most people are aware that this happens
to some of us. particularly if they don't get a response to a
post. Isn't the internet fun? ;-))
