Very cool! I especially like how you did the skin texture. Did you make
your own crackle brushes or d/l them somewhere? I'm always on the
lookout for grungy brushes like that.

That is a great manip, Tracy! I'm in awe on how photo realistic and
detailed the texture is. The cracks are subtle and they look like they
were done with a delicate touch. And that deep bronze and blood red
scheme. just wow!
Can you tell me how long it took to complete and if it was done with a
graphics tablet? I've always been fascinated by realistic textures, but
they are my weakpoint. If this was done with a tablet, it makes me wish I
still had mine...

Something I noticed about the piece is that it seems to have a very human
touch to it. Something that wasn't computer-generated. I think that's
what keeps drawing me in.
Also, can you tell me what resolution you started at?

That's spooky, all right. He'll know he's been hexed if he sees your image!

Hi Cien,
This took about an hour an a half or so. Nope not done with a tablet,
although I have one, it just sits there gathering dust. I just mustered my
temporary hate and anger and put it to good use.

I like this kind of dark art myself, the more macabre, the better. This was
a photograph of him from a Walmart CD and so I cannot remember the
resolution. Not terribly big. To make something like this Cien, you need
to start out with emotion. Much like the novelist who spins a tale that you
can believe, though far fetched, there is a certain amount of honesty that
must be enlisted in order to get the reader to trust you, to jump into your
fantasy and let it become a reality. First things first. You need a
picture of someone that you have very strong feelings about, and in this
case, I had to become willing to make a real person into a demon, to
spiritually kill him. Next comes the technical part. Get a photo and
practice making one crack in the skin. Look at other pictures, like this
one, and notice how there are shadows and light and sometimes even ooze in
the cracks. There should be some swelling around the large cracks achieved
by using a dodge brush. This is a layer based project. If you can't find a
PSP tut for cracked skin, Google for one for Photoshop, the procedure is not
that much different as there are no specific tools used not native to both
programs. If I get time today I will make a little tutorial on how to crack
skin in PSP for Halloween purposes.

No crackle brushes just a straight one pixel brush but I do have a bunch of
grungy brushes and textures which could be made into brushes. I have once
script that will crack anything but it is rather large due to the texture
file that comes with it. I can post if you want to play with it. It is
part of my Texture generator series that has not yet been made public
because I have not had time to revamp my website.

Thanks Jeanne,
Unfortunatly, I do feel kind of bad about that, though he is still the same
person and my feeling have not changed, I would hate it if someone did that
to one of my pictures, might even be a little spooked!

Great Traci! I have a recently ex son in law that I would gladly volunteer a

Thanks, Tracy, I'll wait for your Texture generator series. I'll be

Don't get me mad then let me loose with PSP! This was done in version 9.
It is a manip of a picture of a person who's name I shall no breath a
whisper. The robe is done simply with the paintbrushes. The eyes are drawn
with the vector tools with some dodge and burn. The facial cracks are also
done with the paintbrushes with multiple dodge and burn layers. Lots more
burn for the dark colored facial features.

Is it just me, or does this image bear a more than passing resemblence to
Michael Jackson (a couple of faces ago, before his current "lizard look") ?
Nice job on the s-i-l.

Thanks for the tut, tape! Although a bloody crack on human flesh like that
kind of creeps me out, I'll definitely give it a go. Maybe practice on some
textures first, though. :)

Thanks for the explanation, Tracy. This is a good project for me to get
over two fears I have. Painting with a mouse and altering a photo of a
person. Now, I'm a pretty laid back and reticent so mustering some
emotion might take some time. But maybe I'll "makeover" an ex... heh.
