Unfortunately, the only thing that's saved in a Selection tool preset is the
Mode, Anti-alias setting, Feather setting, and the selection Shape. The
coordinates of the selection are not retained. Suz

Thank you Suz, but if the selection Shape is saved, why doesn't
the selection marquee appear in the new picture.
I was hoping the marquee would appear on the new picture and I would be
able to move it around.

You can save to disc or alpha channel and load it back onto a new image

When Suz said selection shape she meant selection type - i.e., rectangle,
circle, ellipse, etc. as shown in the Selection Type box on the tool
options palette. The actual selection itself is not saved. All that is
saved are the tool option settings in the tool option palette.

The selection itself isn't saved, only the shape (e.g. rectangle,
circle, etc.).

Selection presets save only the settings, not the selection. The
way to do this is to save the selection to disk using Selections >
Load/Save Selection > Save To Disk. When you need the selection
again use Load Selection From Disk in the same submenu.
