This may or may not be a PSP problem, but perhaps the collected wisdom here
can help...
I need a partial image of a $10 bill for an illustration, but when I scan
one, I get an anti-counterfeiting popup, with a link to a "Rules of use"
site, which connects to the US Treasury site. Like I said, I don't know if
the message comes from PSP (Twain Acquire) or from Epson, who made the
scanner.
However, after reading the Treasury rules, I believe I **am** following
their guidelines (I'm only scanning & using a partial image), but still the
scan won't save. Even if it's in B&W.
What to do?

I've encountered thazt problem too. I used PSP Twain with my HP 3570c
scanner.
My way around it was to visit moneyfactory.com , the US Bureasu of Printing
and Engraving web site, and get samples from there.

its not its a graphic problem. All the leading graphic programs have this
anti fraud step since 2000 I think certainly PS 6 PSP 8 in agreement with
the banks in all the main countries

If you have a copy of PSP7 lying around, install and use it.
Otherwise, my version of PhotoFiltre (6.2.6) will scan and work with bills
that won't work in PSP. It's a free image editing program, and quite a
good one at that for basic editing. You can get it here:
http://photofiltre.free.fr/frames_en.htm
Otherwise, you can send me the $10.00 bill if you'd like and I'll exchange
it for a good scan :-)

JoeB

Photoshop handles things differently from PSP. You can scan notes in
Photoshop, edit and save the image. You just can't print the image from
Photoshop.
If you use a program that can scan, edit and save it (like Photoshop or
the free PhotoFiltre), the problem comes when you try to print it. PS
won't print at all, and various other programs provide only partial
printing with unintended results, none of them good. Whether that is a
result of the program or something in the printer software I can't say.
It is possible, however, that by the time the OP gets it edited and
placed within the page for which it is to serve as an illustration that
it will print at that time.

JoeB

Ahhh yess... that will be the test, won't it...?
Thanx for all the responses, however. I'll let you know if I hit a snag
with that.

I think you'll find that counterfeit protection is actually built into most
modern day
scanners.

Try scanning the bill at an oblique angle. Worked for me on my Canon
scanner.

I can import a scan of currency from my Canon MP450 all-in-one to Photoshop
or PhotoFiltre. Printing the scan from PhotoFiltre results in only a
partial print.
But the funny thing is that I can place the currency on the scanner plate
and make a printed color copy using the Copy function of the scanner. But
again, trying to import even printed copy into PSP by scanning it fails.

Taking a photo of the bill and trying to open the image gives me the same
result as trying to scan it into PSP.

Joe, does your offer work the other way? If I send you a good scan of a
$100 bill, will you send me a scruffy, old real $100 bill?

I have a copy of PSP7 so I can scan my own $100 bill - if only I could
find one :-)

How about your scanner - is that old enough so it will scan money? :)

I have a Canon MP450 All in One, and it scans and prints a Canadian $20
using the Copy function, although it won't print it from CS3 even though
CS3 will actually scan the image, and it doesn't seem to want to print it
from PSP7 either even though it will scan it from there.

You know, I like the fact that they never heared about Russian rubles.
Better yet, they never heared about USSR ("Soviet") rubles, so I can
exchange some for some other rustic stuff, like "francs" :-) Scanners and
the software do not recognise Lenin face on the old rubles :-)

I used to be able to scan money with my HP Scanjet 5400c until one day I
saw a firmware update, downloaded and installed it.
