If you would like copies of these 2 scripts, Paul, I can post them to this newsgroup.

I have been trying both of them successfully recently. They are straight-forward to run
each producing a new Adjustment Layer which you can then vary the Opacity.
Clarify_RGB only has one input option "Strength" value.
RDR is automatic, unless you vary the script settings.

Regarding Clarify, I presume that you are using PSP9.
It's worth noting that Clarify changes for the worse with PSPX and PSPPXI.
Although they added decimal places, they 'forgot' to allow less than 1.0 :-)))

Thank you all for your assistance here - much appreciated - I would be
delighted to try out the scripts.
There seem to be many approaches to local contrast enhancement - the Clarify
filter looks to be a segmented method which presumably is responsible for
the vertical & horizontal banding artifacts. I don't find the unsharp mask
method that effective. I've used levels to extract detail from badly
underexposed photos & it certainly has its place as a global method.

I haven't used Corel's versions of PSP so am not aware of the step sizes but
have written scripts for values under one that simply duplicate the layer
perform Clarify @ 1 then merge the 2 layers with varying degrees of
transparency for subtle Clarify effects.

This technical paper maybe of interest:

Tadjio has provided the scripts. With the RDR script you do have to
change PSPApp at the top to JascApp to run it. This applies to any
scripts written/recorded in PSPX or XI that you intend to run in earlier
versions. You should also remove the Host Version in line 9 or you will
likely get a dialogue warning that the script was written for a newer
PSP version. The top of your script should look like this:

from JascApp import *

def ScriptProperties():
return {
'Author': u'Peter Anderson',
'Copyright': u'',
'Description': u'Increases the dynamic range of an image',
'Host': u'Paint Shop Pro Photo',
'Host Version': u''
}

However, you do not have to change any of the other version numbers
throughout the script, as they won't effect how the script runs.

Thanks Guys

Both scripts run fine. I'll be experimenting with them.
