| This is my first time to post to this newsgroup, so bear with me. My
previous post wasn't to clear and the attachment didn't go thru. My problem
is when I try to use Mura's Meister plugin the program (PSP) will crash.
This happens in both PSP 9 and 10. I'll try to send an attachment with this
post. I've used Mura's filters previously without any problem. I'm using
Windows Vista Home Premium

Sure it went through. However, you made the attachment JPEG2000
format, not JPEG, and that may have confused you.

If you are running the plug-in on a selection first do Selections >
Clip To Canvas before running the plug-in. If you aren't using a
selection tell us a bit more about exactly what you are doing.

I suspect this is one of the Vista problems. As long as I remember, Mura
filters were compiled with FilterMeister, and basically, we have two Vista
problems with plugins compiled with previous stable version of FM:
1) DEP problem. If you are not sure what the DEP is and how to turn it
off, I'll try to locate the necessary links in my archive.
2) More than 2 GB of RAM problem. Requires recompiling the plugins by the
developer, using new test build of FM (plus, normally, some extra work).
So, the question is, which one you have there. What did you change in your
system since the plugin was working ok last time?

Could the crash be in the plug-in code, not in PSP?

I'm 99.99% sure that the problem is not caused by PSP. However, chances
are, that this is not caused by plugin itself either, and is rather a side
effect of DEP made "opt-out" in Vista. Many apps have problems of this
sort, resulting from MS "design". Well, according to local saying,
"rhinoceros is known to be short-sighted, but this is not a problem for
him".
If this is DEP problem, it can be fixed by turning DEP off for PSP:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Wi...8361611033.mspx
If it's ">2 Gb RAM" problem, then, like I said, recompiling the plugin is
required.

Me neither as I was using XP, where this feature is "opt-in". As MS
changed it to "opt-out" in Vista, we started to get enormous number of
crash reports because new behaviour, officially supposed to stop hacking
attempts, in reality was stopping pretty kosher compressed and/or
encrypted programs from running. "Woman had no problem so she bought a
pig", another local saying. Users had no problem so MS turned DEP on :-)

When I refer to data exception, I mean an attempt to divide by zero. Is
that what you think of?

Nope, I was talking about DEP - Data Execution Protection. This is new
technology that impose restrictions on turning "data" into "executable".
Since in-memory decompression/decryption of the executable involve reading
data, decompressing data, then turning them into executable and starting
the latter, the execution of compressed/encrypted executable is likely to
be blocked by DEP. Since the plugin the original sender mentioned *is*
encrypted AFAIK, DEP will stop it and cause problem to host, i.e. PSP.
