Author preset shapes font

When I open my preset shapes, I get a message that it needs the DB Davys 3
font, and wants me to substitute arial for it. I haven't done it, and have
googled the universe for the davys 3. Dingbats as well as fonts.
Should I just say yes to the substitution? I had a font problem on my old
computer, and don't want anything to happen to my psp on my new 'puter!
Thanks!!

How strange. Preset shapes should not have anything to do with
fonts, AFAIK. Certainly the ones supplied with PSP do not. Have you
added any from other sources?

Take a look at File > Preferences > File Locations > Preset Shapes.
Examine each of the folders listed there for any files that are not
type PspShape. Move any suspect files to a safe temporary location
and see whether the strange request goes away.

Another possibility is a bad shapes cache file. File Preferences >
Reset Preferences. Check "Delete all cache files..." and restart
PSP.

If a preset shape has text in it and the text was not converted to
curves prior to exporting the shape it will require the original font
to render unless you choose a substitute.

Ok, will look thru the shapes.
And yes, I have many from other sources. Never had a problem before.
Thanks!

Puglie - Ron's reply is "the answer". The shape you're trying to use has
text from that font in it that was not converted to curves prior to
exporting the shape. It will not render correctly until and unless the
original font is available. There is a dingbat font called DavysDingbats3
(internally, it's called DavysOtherDingbats). This is probably the one you
need. Though I find it listed as a "free font" using the Fontfinder, it's
not on the pages where it's indexed. My copy says "DavysOtherDingbats,
Copyright 1991 by David Rakowski. All Rights Reserved." As such, I don't
think I can send it to you. However, I'd be glad to convert your shape for
you and return it to you, if you want to send it to me. Suz

WooHoo!!! It worked! I don't know why I am surprised---I always get help
here! I installed the font (Thanks for finding it, Suz) then hit pre-set
shapes. When I got the error message, I told it to use the davys font.
Voila! (((Hugs))) And puggie snorts--(a compliment.)

Great, Puglie! Good that you're "snorting" again! You might want to edit
that preset shape and convert to curves and then resave. Then you won't get
the error anymore. Suz

I still haven't figured out which one it was that was the problem. I don't
know a thing about converting to curves. Never even heard the expression.
Have you written a tut on it? Is it on your psp9 help site?
Thanks again!!

Vector text in PSP (and any vector application afaik) is dependent on
the font being installed and uses that font to create the text if the
file is reopened. If you convert the text to curves it becomes a path
which is independent of the font and can be node editied. The
downside is you can no longer edit the text as text. You can convert
to curves by selecting the text with the object selector and then
Objects>convert text to curves. The two options allow you to make all
the text a single path or convert each character as it's own path.

Activate the Preset Shapes tool again, Puglie, and find the shape that gave
you the problem. Hover your cursor over it, and a popup will appear, giving
you the shape name, and underneath that, the name of the library that shape
is located in (in PSP8, this all appears on one line). That's the image you
need to open in PSP. But be sure you have the Davys dingbat font open
before you open the shape. Then, find the layer that contains the shape
that's in question - it will most likely have a letter as the sublayer name
in the layers palette. Right-click on that sublayer name, choose Convert
Text to Curves...As Single Shape in the context menu, and then just save the
file (File...Save). That should do it. Suz

Does it matter that I have already installed the font?

If you've already installed the font, you shouldn't get the error again.
