There was some kind of browser plugin that did this a few years ago,
but it didn't seem to catch on and I've unfortunately forgotten its
name. I don't think it redirected everybody to a new page, as you
suggest; instead, there was one (virtual) chat room for each possible
URL, or some such thing.
