MH Software, Inc. is pleased to announce that version 3.1.3 of Connect
Daily Web Calendar software has been released for general availability.
Version 3.1.3 is a major upgrade that adds several powerful new features.
During our testing of the new features, we also uncovered a pre-existing
bug which was fixed.

*****************************************************
* What's new in version 3.1.3
*****************************************************

The biggest new feature in Connect Daily is the support for time zones.
Individual users can now set their preferred time zone, and events that
are referenced to different time zones will be transparently converted to
their default time zone. The capability to set a user preference for time
zone is also available to anonymous users as well. If events are converted
from one time zone to another, they are reformatted to the convention used
by the viewing user's locale. In other words, if someone from Italy views
a calendar event that has a timezone in the US, the time will be
re-formatted to follow the Italian standard of hh.mm.

Along with time zone support, we replaced the icon set used with a cleaner
version. The icons were purchased from Glyfx (http://www.glyfx.com). If
you need icons for your application, their icons are tough to beat. If you
want to retain the look of the old icons, add the following line:
"IconsFile=classic" to your configuration.properties file. An easy way to
add this to your file is to put "IconsFile=classic" in the System |
Configuration | License Information Import License Data box and press the
import license data button. Along the way, we have created a system that
allows customers to change the icons in such a way that it would survive
an upgrade to Connect Daily.

Anonymous users can now set a preference for display of event stop times,
and resources.

Used Bobby to improve section 508/W3C Accessibility for externally facing
pages. If you have trouble with the icons/dropdowns wrapping because of
this change, add "font-size: 1px;" to the .Invisible entry in your
cascading style sheet.

Additional minor features that have been added include:

CSV Export now optionally includes the long description field.

Unapproved resources now show in italic font on the Gantt Chart.

The ViewItem screen has been improved to:

Display unapproved resources on an event.

A link is provided to the parent item for instance items or
Setup/Teardown events.

Contact Info will be displayed even if the name is null.

Fixed an issue where robots can cause a NumberFormatException

If the Addl. Info URL starts with www., it will be written as an HTTP
link.'

Resource Requests and Item Add notifications now include the time for one
time events.

The year dropdown is now year-1 to year+10.

*****************************************************
* Bug Fixes in 3.1.3
*****************************************************

Version 3.1.2 inadvertantly added a JDK 1.4 unique feature. Since many
Connect Daily customers use WebLogic or WebSphere with JDK 1.3.x, this was
removed.

An infinite loop bug was found in the iCal export routine. If an attempt
was made to export an event that was recurring, but the end date for the
recurrence had already passed, the processing thread would lock up,
pushing CPU utilization to 100%. Since the page could be invoked by
robots, it was really only necessary to have the wrong type of record in
order for the problem to arise.

*****************************************************
* Hosted Customers
*****************************************************

Because Connect Daily 3.1.3 has undergone an extensive test period, we
will be immediately deploying it to our hosted customers. If you want to
enable time zone support, go to System | Configuration | System and set
the option to "yes".

*****************************************************
* Future Directions
*****************************************************

We will probably be following this release with another one in the pretty
near future. The two things I have in mind to do for the next release are
iCal import support, and a single-day planner view. iCal import will be a
step towards adding bi-directional sync support, as well as improving our
interoperability with other calendar packages.

Another small thing I have been thinking about adding is RSS feed support.
If you have interest in this, let me know. It would be helpful to know
what RSS tools you think would be accessing the stream so I could test
with them.
