Author WMV with Media Player requires some licence?

I have a WMV file that when I try to open it with Media Player a window with
licence aquision shows up. The file won't open without installing some
software from the site specified there. I'm afraid of installing any unknown
software - is there any way to playback the WMV file without this procedure?
Maybe other application from Media Player?
