Author viewing a jpeg2000 image on PSP 11 + Irfanview

Yes, this is not a newsgroup for the Irfanview program- but I think it was
in this group sometime ago that somebody mentioned this freeware program is
a thread I started.

BTW, I purchased Paintshop Pro Photo 11. And, I have access to some very
large jpeg2000 images from my state's GIS web site.

When I loaded the jpeg into PSP 11, it didn't look right- instead of an
aerial photo- it's a checkerboard of blocks which vaguely show the image in
the background.

Then I installed Irfanview and it just couldn't load such a large image- it
kept trying but after several minutes I gave up and closed the program. It
does view other, smaller files just fine.

So, I wonder why both programs are having no luck with this jpeg2000, other
than it's a 15 meg file.

It's possible that PSP simply can't properly read the jpeg2000 file. As
for Irfanview, it requires a plugin to be able to do so. Have you
downloaded and installed the pluging for it?

Try PhotoLine 32 from www.pl32.com and see if it'll display the larger files. I
have a strong suspicion it'll do just fine. It beats PSP in every other way, it
might as well win here too.

Is that 15 meg compressed? Do you have enough memory to display it open?

I just downloaded a JP2
Thematic Mapper (TM) quarter-quad scene that includes the Crow Butte map
quadrangle. 4-3-2 composite color-infra-red.
3164 x 2982 cells. GeoJP2 format.

This showes as what looks like a series of small Sq images held together in
one image maybe this is also you problem
