PSP Gradient Question

Could someone pls explain how to do the following? I've tried Help
and it drives me batty! I think I want 'Gradient Editor' but after
two hours I can't figure out how to use it. It seems to want it's
own colours, not the ones I choose.
I've drawn a rectangle and have a marquee outline.
I've selected two colours.
The aim is to have them fade into each other (and they moment
they clash where they meet).
Any help appreciated. Please, at a basic level !
Thanks - Kirk

It varies a little depending on your version of PSP. But for recent
versions, select the colours as the foreground and background colours in
the Materials Palette. Click on the foreground material swatch, then on
the Gradient tab of the colour picker that opens. Click on the gradient
sample and choose the "Foreground-Background" gradient. Adjust the angle
to suit. Use the Flood Fill tool (with Match Mode set to "none") and
click inside your marquee.

Thank you, Tim - managed to get exactly what was required.
Now, just to remember for next time!
