| I have PSP 7(Anniversary Edition), and am wondering what the differences
between it and later versions are, because I want to know if it would be
worth the cost to upgrade. Wouldn't want to do it and then find out I just
get a few new picture tubes. And hello all!

You can download the latest version from Corel's Web site
for a free trial, and then decide if you want to buy it. If
you do want to buy it, look for a good sale or rebate and
save money.
And you can install the new version without removing the old
one, if you like.

I still use v.9 because v.X didn't add much to make the upgrade
worthwhile. However, v.X with the three patches is, from all reports,
much more stable than the latest version, which is v.XI.
Several big improvements since v.7 include things like Digital Camera
Noise Reduction (DCNR) filter, Chromatic Aberation Removal, selective
history undo, and scripting (used to automate tasks, etc). My own
opinion is that there is little added in v.X and XI to make them worth
the upgrade from v.9 (although I do like the new Color Changer filter in
v.XI).
You can get much more info by reading the Corel groups. A list of their

The big change came in PSP 8 There was more then a few tubes but a new
interface. this was to facility the use and recording of scripts These allow
you to record and save the steeps you used to make an image or some part of
it, so that it can be repeated later such as next day ,month year. some
clever scripts have been written for psp and are often like having another
set of filters. Many new tools appeared with 8 and 9 since then its been
more of a consolidation period and a coral stamp its name on time. The
Background eraser is a wonderful tool the digital camera removal filter is
very good, sold on its own as an adobe plugin It could have go £59 a go.
also the chromatic abrasion tool for digital image is a good tool
Add Balls and Baubles plus displacement mapping And you have plenty to go
at.
Its going to take some time getting to know the new interface and where the
options are but well worth while.
The latest X1 may not be a good upgrade from psp X or 9 but from 7 you get a
loti loti extra new tools. Shop around you may get the full retail package
in a Box ( and a free DVD in the uk for the kids) for less then an upgrade
from coral. You also get an organiser come browser included to keep growing
number of images in order and easy to find. You dont get animation shop any
more but you can keep that from 7 as nothing changed apart from upgrades to
its ability to find PSP 8 and PSP 9 on your computer. It does not intricate
with PSP X1 but there are way round that.
PSP X1 can run on the same computer as PSP 7 so you dont need to remove it
and can fall back on it as you learn new tricks

| I am a perpetual newbie, since I do not use PSP enough to really learn it.
For my rather limited skill level, I find v. 9 the best and most stable yet.
However, as Trev suggests, install it in a different folder and keep v. 7 as
well. It was very stable, and (at least on my computer) opens much faster
than v. 9 or XI. I found v. 8 unstable and buggy, and so uninstalled it.
When I get a bunch of JPGs as e-mail attachments, I'll open them to view in
v.7 just because it's faster. But when I want to work with a photo file, I
use v. 9. The photo adjustments are more extensive and the user interface is
more to my liking.
By the way, I believe PS Photo Album came bundled with some versions of PSP.
For me, v. 4 was much more stable than v. 5, which was a disaster on my
computer. I am now using Corel Photo Album v. 6, and it performs nicely, so
far. However, the class act of photo organizing and collecting is Picasa, a
free download from Google, although it does not have the features to produce
really the nifty slide shows you can do with Photo Album.

| Ok thank you all. I am having a friend download the trial version and burn
it onto CD for me, since I'm still on dialup(yeah yeah I know), and for
PSP9, the trial version was like 100megs...
