| A friend gave me a disc for PSP6. It belonged to her deceased mother.
My friend knows nothing about the program.
I've read through the "help" section and find no answer for my question
and thought perhaps someone in this group could provide an answer.
When I scan a photo, then view, it appears as:
[scan name[1:2](Background)]
Why does it say background? Have I actually saved the photo as a
background, and if so..how do I get it as a saved image?

I assume this is what it says in psp. On that Assumption, Background refers
to the type of layer the image has. We often want to create transparency or
place another image below that. To do that we first promote that layer to a
raster layer by right clicking the layer in the layers pallet (Keystroke L).
no mater what type of layer it is Clicking the Floppy disc icon on the tool
bar of File Save will allow you to save in the format you wish. Psp Format
will save any layers but jpeg will flatten all the layers down to one as per
the original background image
Hope that's got you onto the right track The help files in PSP 6 are quiet
good
