Copy transparent image from A to B

| Hi,
I struggle with this every so often, achieving less than prerfect
results, maybe I can nail it with someome's help?
An image is scanned intending to use some part of it in another image.
The background needs to be removed from it. How is that done?
Can you remove all instances of one (or one by one) colours from it?
Instinct says e.g. to change all reds to transparent (but I don't it
works that way).
Then somehow, get that onto a layer, and copy the layer to the
destination image, merging the two.
Is that anything like how it's done? Could some one give me some step
by steps on how to achieve that result please.
I'm using PSP version 7.

People can help you better if they can see the image or at least a
sample of it. Corel, which now owns Paint Shop Pro, has it's own
newsgroups for PSP on their own server, where you can post binaries
(images, for example). Here is a list of the newsgroups that PSP users
subscribe to, and where there are more people who might be able to help

Joe's advice is good. The concept is simple, but depending on the
image, can be tedious to apply. First, promote the background layer
to a regular layer, which supports transparency. Then use the Eraser
at low hardness to remove the background, adjusting its size and
shape to work around the tight corners of the subject. Copy the
layer and paste it as a new layer atop the destination image. Then
the Deformation tool can rotate and resize the subject to fit its
new background.
PSP 8 introduced the Background Eraser tool, specialized for just
this task, which makes it much easier, faster, and more successful.
If you do much of this, an upgrade to version 9 would be worthwhile.
I cannot recommend any of the later versions, although others might.

Thats true you will get Zero because there on the Corel servers. Clicking
any of those links will add it to Out Exp But fro forte you would have to
add the new server cnews.corel.com. There are instructions for this In the
community section of the corel web site.
Indecently using the Magic wand to select all the red then deleting Gives
you Transparency But you could just select that part you want with the point
to point tool and then copy and paste on the new image as a new layer And
there are many more ways.

Could you paste a link? I spent an hour or so looking but no joy. Only

Yes cheeked the KB and cant find it. I'm sure there used to be Instructions.

Afraid not - I use Xnews so don't know how to set up Forte Agent. In
Xnews I just put cnews.corel.com into the server box in the Setup page
and subscribed to the Corel server that way. It should work the same in
Forte Agent I would think. However, remember that there should be
nothing in the username and/or password boxes (if they exist in Forte
Agent) because they are not required to access the Corel newsgroup
servers.

In Agent, go to Tools:Servers and Accounts. Click on New:News Server.
Enter "cnews.corel.com" in the News Server input, then click on Next, then
Finish, then Apply and answer Yes to the "Do you want to go online and
update the directory" question.
Now go to Tools:Newsgroup Directory and you should see the Corel
newsgroups (i.e. corel.PaintShopProPhotoX2) listed along with all of your
other newsgroups. Simply select the ones you wish to monitor and click on
Add Newsgroups to Desks.
Since I don't normally use Agent, I'll leave the rest of the configuration
up to you, but this should get you started.

I've just managed to get Agent working with the Corel
newsgroup so I'll try there.
