Best way to add a tan? Skin tone in photos...

| I'm working with PSP8 and basically fumble my way around and pick up ideas
from smart people here.
Anyway, I have a friend (a girl) who has some photos in which she is not
happy with her skin. Normally she keeps a tan. Is there any way someone
might tell me the best place to start to adjust the skin tone in her photos
to make her look "more tan"?
TIA!

While I agree there are smart people here (if you ignore the
trolls) you should subscribe with your newsreader to the Corel
Paint Shop Pro groups on the Corel server to get a larger audience
for your questions. It's at cnews.corel.com

There are several ways. Here's one that should work in almost any version
of PSP:
1. Set the foreground color in the Material palette to a dark tan color
(you might try #10A02B as a starter).
2. Create a new raster layer, set its Blend Mode to Color and reduce the
opacity to around 65-75 percent.
3. Use the regular paint brush to paint the tan on.
Keep in mind that you will have to adjust things to make them work
properly for your particular picture and your particular tastes. The above
method will give you a starting point, but it will probably have to be
modified for your uses. Specifically, the exact color chosen and the
opacity level can have a great affect on the final outcome. A little
playing around with some of those values should give you a good starting
point for finding what you are looking for.

Set the foreground color to whatever color you want the "tan" to be.
Click on the paintbrush, return it to default. Set Opacity to 50% and
Blend Mode to Soft Light. Paint over the skin. You can do this directly
on the image or on a new layer (better if you're not good at staying
within the "lines").
