Author PSP 9 still available ?

Is there any place I can still get PSP 9? I missed the window before
version X came out. I just tried version XI and while there are a
couple of improvements I like in the selection/pick raster vs. vector
mechanism, and a couple of fixes in the image slicer that I can use,
it's about 30% slower and I can't handle that... not worth the minor
improvements in the other areas.

I'd like to try out V9 - any place it still hangs out ? Maybe the
trial version is still somewhere I can peruse it ?

Thanks,
JoeB

I believe you can still get the trial version here:

http://ftp.jasc.com/pub/en/

PSPX, once you install all 3 patches in sequence, is fine for most
people also once they get used to the new browser palette and
realize that what appear to be missing PSP9 tools are just hidden
in the View>Customize>Unused Commands and can be rescued and put
onto a custom toolbar. You can likely stil find inexpensive copies
of v.X. Don't bother with XI.

Well, I plan to keep using it... so "trial" might not cut it long
term. But, I can give it a hot to see if I want it.

Is v.X as slow as v.XI ? Or should I say "slower than v.9"?

There are a number of places to find out-of-date versions, the first that
comes to my mind being eBay. _Sometimes_ they are inexpensive, too. But
there are sites that specialize in them, and in my local area, there are a
couple of swap meets that occur regularly where you can find
new-in-shrink-wrap-but-old-version copies.

Most people reported early in the PSP 10 generation that it starts a
little bit faster than PSP 9, probably because it does not load
everything at start time. Short hiccups occur later as you first use
features and after that they are identical. This is my own
experience.

If yours runs more slowly, make sure you have not got into 16 bits
per channel by mistake. Disable color management. Look for large
numbers of resource files (tubes, brushes, shapes, etc.) that can be
disabled in File Locations. Make sure that your virus scanner is not
scanning anything in the PSP program folder at execute time. If your
graphic card is by NVIDIA, make sure its driver is current.

You know, with the amount of stuff I buy on Ebay, you'd think I would
have thought of that :-)

Thanks

Thanks Fred, I will try 9 - if it does not have what I need I will try
10 with your suggestions.

There's a freeware program, Beyondo, which makes it easy to reset your
computer date. You could even run it in a batch file with PSP9. PSP
then remains within the 30-day trial period indefinitely.

If it's important for you to have the current date on your newly
created files, you could use a (freeware) program to easily
batch-change the dates. I can't think of one just now, but they're out
there at freeware file sites. Perhaps changing dates would be an
inconvenience, but hopefully a minor one for you.

I still use PSP9. None of the changes in PSPX were valuable enough for
me to purchase the upgrade. And I'm going to pass on XI, too. Good
luck in finding the full version of 9.
