How to track and smooth edges with flood-fill or other way?

| Hi,
Is there a way to while using flood-fill to smooth edges - to make some sort
of transition between background and the picture?
I´m currently taking photos for display with white background - and use the
filler-function a lot along with a paintbrush + "hardness 50" to smooth
edges after having used the flood-fill-tool (which is a big work)
Sometimes the flood-fill doesnt do the job well, and I manually have to edit
each edge - which can be a major work.
I have around 1000 photos to edit, done 200 so far - so long way to go. :)
Regards,
Anders

No, sorry for not making it clear enough.
Imagine taking product-pictures with a white background.
These photos you import to Paint shop to edit so the background becomes 100%
white.
It is that procedure which is I´m working on manually at the moment with an
ordinary brush or flood fill.
Its a big job, as you cant always use flood-fill to make the background 100%
white (255,255,255) because the flood-fill tool makes to sharp edges or
accidently converts some of the actual product into white as well.
So my question is if there is some way to do that job easier? (a better
tool, or way perhaps?)

Making a selection of what you want to fill with a feathered edge may be
easier to select what you dont want to fill feather then invert.

Selections > modify Depending on your psp You may have two chooses Feather
and Inside and outside feather You will only need a couple of pixels just
enough the soften the edge
