Are you suggesting that I won't be happy with PSP 10?

I don't know that she's suggesting that, as some people are happy
with PSP 10 (or PSP X as it is branded). Many PSp9 users weren't
and have stuck with v.9.

But she may have been suggesting that (as rumour - and rumour
only!) has it, there might be a new version of PSP coming out
sometime around the middle of September that you or others might
want to wait for. On the other hand, if you are a person who does
send in your rebate stuff and don't mind waiting for the money to
come back, then if you get v.X for free in the end you lose nothing
by purchasing it.

And on the other other hand, you can always check out the trial
version from Corel's site to decide for yourself whether it's worth
the effort.

I bought X for $30 and have been satisfied with the value I received.

I still go back to 9 occasionally.

The offer for after rebates is only for an online purchase; the store
is usually #10 higher & sometimes $20 higher on some hardware.

Got mine at the store & have received 1 rebate, $30; the other is
still waiting even if sent at the same time; but the rebate site
did say "no errors" tho. Have found that rebates don't usually
get processed until after the final date; & the wait for my other
rebate has a final date of 1-1-2007, I think. :-(

Still, $9.95 isn't bad for the price & if a new version comes out,
may get only if it is able to save as a PDF file.

I picked up PSP 9 for $9.99 (after two rebates) a few weeks before X
came out, and couldn't be more pleased with it. In fact, I haven't used
Elements 3 once since then.

Mmnn! I'm still trying to find any value at all in version X.
I occasionally run it to have a play, but always return to V9 for serious
work... Version X is a toy.

Yes, that's strange. CompUSA has a $10 offer too, and by this time in the
product cycle this group is usually abuzz with "what I'd like to see in
PSP11". Not a word. Does this mean (to anybody except Uni) that X is
the "last word"?

My fondest desire, and what might get me to buy 11, is cross-poliination
with the vector capabilities of Corel Draw, which are much more intuitive
and useful than the clumsy tool set that come with PSP. Couldn't happen,
of course, because it would kill the market for casual users of CD.

Under JASC ownership PSP was more of a Mini Corel Draw but with better photo
side. I did wonder where it would fit in with Corel. X was not much of a
guide or CDx3. so this might be the first indications of where its going or
not going.

You should read into that statement quite a lot. Think about who the target
market of PSP used to be, and who it might possibly be now. Then ask
yourself why you aren't hearing any buzz in the places you used to.

Doesn't look like the last word - but it looks like it might have a limited
vocabulary.

More likely - wouldn't happen because that require actual work that has to
be paid for, thus cutting into company profits.

Plus, they just spent all this month's allowance buying Ulead.

Historically, anything that Corel Corporation acquires - is the last
word. Who knows, maybe they'll sell PSP off to some programmers.

Corel or the investment group that owns them? Corel tends to integrate
products into existing suites while the investment group might want to
position the Ulead lines (of which image editing is a small part) against
their other holdings.

What has PhotoImpact got that PSP users would relish?

Corel is a marketing company. They don't develop anything, they buy it.
>

Lotsa good stuff. So does PhotoPaint. Doesn't matter a hill of beans.
Corel didn't buy Intervideo/Ulead for PI, they bought it for the video stuff
(and if it coincidentally knocks out a little competition along the way, all
the better.)

In the meantime - gnaw on this one a bit
