Author PSP has no access to Registry

When I start PSP 6, it says that the system registry cannot be edited.
It advises me to use Regedit. But I have no idea what modifications
are needed.

PSP stores things like your preferences in the registry. No one
expects you to put them there by hand. That is a very poor error
message.

Make sure that you install and run PSP in a Windows account with
administrator privileges. If it still cannot write to the registry,
then something changed registry permissions. Try to identify that
something and stop its mischief, or the trouble will return.

Read Answer ID #757113 at http://support.corel.com for directions
about restoring registry permissions.

When I start PSP 8.1 I get the message "Failed to update the system
registry. Please try using REGEDIT." with an OK button. I click OK and it
starts up fine.

This just started a week or so ago after years without the problem. I
uninstalled/reinstalled PSP 8 with the 8.1 patch and get the same results.

Per your instructions I checked the permissions in the registry and all is
in order.

Any suggestions for this one. It's just annoying and doesn's seem to affect
the operation.

Maybe the next step is to uninstall and go through the registry and remove
every referemce to JASC/PSP and try reinstalling.

Thanks....

Excellent! Do you have any idea what changed to make the registry
inaccessible? Microsoft Update, perhaps? This is bound to strike
someone else, and would be good to know.

I used to work with Administrator privileges, because of the many
problems I had with limited privileges, but I want to be sensible and
try to use limited privileges as often as I can.

Fred, I have no idea what caused the change. I do a lot of
installing/uninstalling software and I don't have a clue as to what caused
the problem.

I don't use PSP eveyday, sometimes not for a week or more so it would have
been futile for me to try and find out what did it.

I'm using WinXP Pro SP2 with all the updates that go with it. Could have
happend after one of the updates, who knows....
