Author Layer group question

I have an object on three layers, and I need to move them together as
one. I group them, move them, but then they have collapsed and can't
be ungrouped, witch is necessary. I know this should be doable, but I
can't. Help?

You're using the wrong tool in the Layers Palette. Don't group
the layers. Instead, link them. You do that with the little
link icons that are just to the right of the Blend Mode options
in the Layers Palette.

Each time you click on a link icon it changes the number in the
box, starting from 1. So you can link a bunch of 1's, and have
separately linked layers with the number 2, etc.

HTH.
