How to resize (reduce the number of pixels) a lot of JPG files? Is
there a batch command to do this?

There is not one magic command, but a much more powerful set of
features. For this use, open one of these files. Record a script
while you resize it using all the options you want. Save the script,
then close the file.

File > Batch Process. The batch processor has flexible ways for you
to identify the starting files. Tell it to run your recorded script
on these files. Use its flexible file saving options to select an
output destination, file format, and file names.

Given all the choices, a look at Help > Automating Tasks is
definitely in order.

A hint from the once-burned: make your input files read-only to
prevent inadvertently over-writing them.

Great!

Errr, how is this done? I have PSP 6.

It's not. Scripts weren't introduced until version 8.

Now you know why you need to provide some information when you ask a
question, instead of forcing people to make assumptions.

If you are going to do much repetitive processing like this, an
upgrade is definitely worth the trouble, José. Version 8 came out in
the summer of 2003 and is no longer found, but version 9 is still
available sporadically on eBay and Amazon for $20 - $30. Beyond
scripting, it has really excellent features for the photographer. It
is my workhorse version. Version 10 did not add much for the general
user and it subtracted a few things.

To avoid the complexities of scripting, I suggest using a separate utility
that is focused on resizing and associated issues.

For example JpegSizer. Free trial available here:

Pete makes a good point. The free IrfanView will do this too. If you
need just resizing with no other editing these less flexible
althernatives are quick and easy.

For others looking in, I'll beg to differ a little with Pete on the
"complexities" of scripting. You click one button to start
recording, click another to stop after you do a normal resizing, and
give PSP a name for the script. By itself, this is no big deal. It
gets more useful if you want to do more, for instance a photo fixup
and a touch of sharpening at the same time.

I think this is just the thing I want. Thanks.

Forcing? Did he bend anyone's arm? I don't think so.

However, its input can be an entire tree of folders, but the output
sweeps all files together in a single folder. That's a pity.

JpegSizer gives you the option of saving each resized image into a
sub-folder in each original's folder.
