| I've lost my 'visible' material palette and, am unable to retrieve it.
How do I get it back-I love gradients and textures and can't do these
whenever I fllodfill-
Please advise.

Three things to try:
1. View > Palettes > Materials.
2. Load a workspace that you had saved containing your
customizations.
3. File > Preferences > Reset Preferences, check "Make all
toolbars/palettes visible and on screen."
