Writing undo data to disk.

Every once in a while, PSP X will pause for 20 or 30 seconds, while the message
"Writing undo data to disk. Please wait"
is displayed. This happened with PSP 9 as well.
Right now, with this message displayed, I have about 1200 meg of RAM free and
about 50 gig free on the disk designated for scratch use.
Any suggestions for fixes, or for settings that might be tweaked?

Yes. See Help > Contents > Getting started with Paint Shop Pro >
Undoing and redoing actions > To set undo preferences. It is rather
thin, but you can limit how far back PSP will let you undo, or even
turn the feature off, to trade for the amount of data written to the
disk.

Just to add a little tidbit to that:
When working with PSP7 on my old machine I found it wwas constantly
locking up because it couldn't write undo data - turned out it was using
the "temp" directory (default, I think) and that was on a nearly-full
drive. I then set the path to a directory on a *networked* *external*
drive with plenty of space. While that does slow things down, it also
gave me "endless" undo.
Another thing you can do (with v7 at least) is occasionally "clean out"
the undo data from within PSP if you know you don't need more of it.
That way you can continue working without crashing.

The last time this happened, PSP X locked up for over 30 seconds.
I checked and there was about 1200 meg of free RAM and about 50 gigabytes of
free drive space.
This happened when I saved an image that had been reduced to 800 x 800 pixels.
I've changed PSP's "temp" location from an external drive (FAT 32) to an
internal drive (NTFS), and we'll see if that has any effect.
Question: How do you "clean out" the undo data?

On the History palette, click "Empty Command History."
