Hi, I found this newsgroup listed in my recent copy of PSP8 which I
purchased. I have been watching for awhile. What are the basic
rules of this group ? Any pics permitted, or should they be ones
doctored in PSP ? I would appreciate any comments. TIA

Duck the trolls, don't bother posting binaries as virtually no one will
see them and plug into cnews.corel.com as well as that tends to be where
all the action is and is moderated so virtually no troll problems.

This is an unmoderated group but does not allow posting images.
It also has its share of trolls who just want to stir things up.

Corel (which now owns Jasc, which developed PSP8 and prior
versions) has newsgroups on its server which are moderated and
allow images to be posted. You can go to the link below and
scroll down to the Paint Shop Pro groups and subscribe to those
of interest. Being moderated you do not need a username or
password in you newsreader to access the groups. You can also
just set up your reader for cnews.corel.com. There are a lot
more people in the Corel groups, but some of us visit this group
regularly also.

You can post anything you wish. Just look at what "All Things Mopar"
(AKA Jerry) is posting! But, then, again, those muscle car people aren't
very swift!

:-)

Welcome aboard!!!!!

Thanks to you and also Canopus. I am working on this. I can arrive
at the corel site but it seems I am unable to download the PSP 8
group, it would seem it does not like Agent, or perhaps it is Telus
does not carry it.

I have managed to download it on Opera but so far can't set it up so I
can post. Working on that too :)

Many people report using Agent successfully there. Corel's server
likes Agent when Agent is set up properly. I don't have the details,
but someone will chime in. I think you need a separate instance of
Agent for each account.

Unlike Usenet, there is no "carrying of it" by your ISP. Your
newsreader talks directly to the Corel server.

OK - I think I get the picture now. Perhaps I need to look within
Agents settings. I tried with IE but it tried to go through Agent. I
tried through Opera and wound up at some weird group which although it
contained PhotoShop did not seem to have anything to do with Corel.

Tomorrow when the brain is fresh, I must give it another try. Thanks
for the pointers.

If you have Free Agent, I don't think that it handles multiple newsgroup
accounts. If you have the paid version, check the documentation. The Corel
News Server is:

cnews.corel.com

If you set it up like any other account, but skip the username and
password - then you're set.
In Outlook Express, to set up the account, first open outlook express (if it
is not your mail client then make sure to skip the wizard) . . .

Then Click TOOLS, ACCOUNTS
Then click the ADD button and then NEWS

Display Name: Lucretia Borgia
CLICK NEXT
e-mail address: lucretiaborgia@florence.it
CLICK NEXT
News (NNTP) server:
cnews.corel.news
CLICK NEXT
Then click FINISH

The newsgroup server (cnews.corel.news), should appear in the folder view on
the left - you should be propted to subscribe to groups on that server, if
not, select that server and click the Newsgroups button. Type paintshop and
then subscribe to what you like.

Agent has no problem with any group on the Corel site and since you
are accessing the newsgroup from the Corel site it has nothing to do
with Telus.

I see that you are using version 3.1 of AGENT.

1. Setup the Corel site, which I presume that you have done.

2. You then need to select the PSP8 newsgroup from the Newsgroup
Directory after you have gotten the newsgroup list.

3. The group will then appear in the 'ALL DESKS' folder and you can
view it in that folder or copy it to another desk/folder.

If you still can't access the group then write back and I will try to
help. Supply more information exactly where you are having trouble.

The problem may not be with your software or your setup method. I subscribed to
cnews.corel.com 2 days ago with Thunderbird with no problems. Today it timed
out connecting to the server. Keep trying, you probably just hit when the
server was down. Could be a problem or just maintenance.

It's down now for me too, but was OK this morning. It was up and
down a few days ago, but has generally been very well-tended.

I tried all the great suggestions but it didn't work. So then I

wasn't for him to help me with this, we ran through it together but
came up dry. That was his suggestion, that going through corel, I
might just be hitting it when it was down, so it seems that was a good
guess.

I did manage to get psp9 for some reason, but really looking for 8. I
will try again, perhaps after tomorrow, when everyone is back at the
grindstone :)

You sure are a helpful set, many thanks.

I believe that comes under "previous versions"

I think I have located 8 through corel with the Opera browser, still
not accessable through Agent - the mysteries of usenet :)
