Author RAW Processor Suggestions?

I was a long-time user of PSP-5, and about 6-months ago I went to
PSP-9. I consider that upgrade officially "Worth It" and I have been
happy with PSP-9, especially since I can now read, convert and do some
basic processing of my RAW files (CRW from a Canon 10D). IMO the
results that are coming out of PSP-9 are dramatically better than what
I was seeing from the bundled Canon RAW processor (which I had to use
in conjunction with PSP-5).

I was considering an upgrade to PSP-X because of its promised 16-bit
color processing and expanded RAW support, but after browsing through
some of the threads here, I'm now thinking that maybe this isn't such
a great idea.

Are there other SW options that folks here know of (maybe as plug-ins
or pre-processors to work alongside of PSP) that would provide better
RAW file support and management and SOA filter processing like the
high-pass sharpening?

Thanks

Raw shooter essentials is free and premium is fuller but with a cost equal
to psp so essentials plus psp 9 digital camera nose reduction will give the
best support
You can get essentials from the Corel web site or from
http://www.pixmantec.com/

I bought PSP X, but I find the free (included) Raw Shooters Essentials
does what I want. I'm a Corel Photo-Paint user and bought PSP X so I
could more easily use Raw. The 16-bit tiff's saved by PSP won't load in
Photo-Paint. The 8-bit tiff's were recently fixed, but why use tiff for
8-bit?

Be sure to install the 10.01 update, which claims to correct 16-bpc
TIFF saving. If it still fails, tech support should hear about it.

I'm running 10.02.

Correction, the saved 48 bit (16 bit/channel) TIFFs load in PhotoPaint
but are garbled or have the wrong colors. BTW the Windows Explorer (file
browser) also fails to render the 48 bit TIFFs correctly.

Raw Shooters Essentials (RSE) saves 48 bit tiffs that windows can
preview and PhotoPaint can read.

The only reason I was interested in color 48 bit, TIFFs was to get the
high bit depth images from NEF into PhotoPaint. The Nikon Converter is slow.

I think I prefer Photo Paint. It does most operations in 48 bit (as well
as 24 bit), but mostly I more used to it.

That and the fact that PSP won't work with the latest Nvidia drivers, my
video card and the AMD X2 processor.

Do you have the 83.10 driver? It's apprently in beta, seems to
work fixing PSP issues according to reports, and you can get it
here:

No--I'm using the 82.12 beta driver. I don't really trust getting
drivers from out-of-the-ordinary places. Look forward to the issue being
fixed when the new driver is released.
