Author Problem with WMF files

There's a problem I have with -some- WMF files (about 5% of the
thousands I have), and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on how to
fix it.

If I'm viewing one of the problem files in PSP's browser, it looks
absolutely fine. However, once I open it, there's black in areas that
aren't supposed to be black! For visual examples, please look at:

http://users.aol.com/gracefromsocal/bad3.jpg
http://users.aol.com/gracefromsocal/bad4.jpg
http://users.aol.com/gracefromsocal/bad1.jpg
http://users.aol.com/gracefromsocal/bad2.jpg

In each of those examples I've included screen shots of the image as
seen in the browser right alongside the image opened.

If I open the same file in a different graphics app, it's fine. I can
actually do that--open it in something else--and then copy and paste it
into PSP. But what a pain! The point is that the file itself is NOT
damaged or corrupted; it's definitely something about PSP displaying it
wrong.

Thanks.

If you select that black polygon part of the image in the layers pallet
what does the properties say ?

I'm sorry...I wish I knew how to find out! I'm very unfamiliar with
layers in general, and have no idea how to answer your question. I'd
greatly appreciate some guidance (and patience!).

Thanks.

wmf is a vector format in the layers pallet there will be one layer with a +
Click that and it will expand to many layers as each bit of the wmf image
will have its own layer most likely called polygon or plotline. Hovering the
mouse over each layer will bring up a thumbnail view. work your way though
until you find the ones with that black fill right click and pick properties
If it shows a black fill un check it and you may have the transparency that
you want.

If you like Post one to me as a WMF at trevbowden@dsl.pipex.com
Its 11pm here so it will be Tomorrow before I give a reply

Thanks for the help. I did that, stepping through each of many
individual layers--but never found the offending area. (I'm referring
to this image: http://users.aol.com/gracefromsocal/bad3.jpg) The
closest I came was the very last entry (called PolyPolygon)--its
thumbnail was a completely black rendition of the main part of the
image, i.e., the dog and cat (not the hearts around the edge), including
the offending area. Toggling its visibility on and off resulted in
-all- the black from the main part of the image disappearing, not just
the part that shouldn't be black.

What I'm really baffled about is this: How can the thumbnail (in PSP's
browser) look perfectly normal, yet the image has black where it doesn't
belong once I open it?

Thanks, it's on its way.

FWIW, I'm using PSP8 on a 'doze XP machine; I've also tested it on two
of my notebooks and one of my other desktops, all with the same result.
So if it's some fluke at MY end...it has to be something that affects
all of my computers!
