That did the trick! Thanks Dave.

There is a setting under "Advanced" for the Epson printer that sets it to
only use black ink. When set that way it printed correctly in grayscale.

It would, but, even so, it should print correct grey scale when the
"use black ink only" is not selected, mine does. Very odd.
