Author Help with reddish photo

I have a couple of photos which have a very reddish cast, particularly on
the left side. I think the film was affected by light or heat.

I have PSP 8 and can manage the basics, but I'm no expert!

Can someone give me detailed instructions, or direct me to a Tutorial, on
removing the red.

Thanks heaps,
Barbara

A good first try is Adjust > Color Balance > Fade Correction. If you
can identify the correct color for some part of the scene, perhaps
white paint or a familiar complexion, Adjust > Color Balance >
Manual Color Correction is worth a try. The Help buttons on both
these dialogs give hints about using them and also suggest other
possibilities.

These techniques apply the same correction to the whole image. If
yours needs different corrections in different areas, there are many
ways to restrict the application of an adjustment and to combine
different adjustments. The choice depends on the image and on
personal preference, a topic for another thread if it becomes
necessary.

If the whole-image fixups are not adequate, could you put a small
version (100 - 200 KB max) of the original image on the Internet
somewhere and post its address here? Alternatively, repeat your
question on the Corel PSP newsgroup, where attachments are
permitted. http://tinyurl.com/2pt9o lists those groups.

I'll try the Fade Correction and Color Balance and see how I go.

I'm guessing I can select the offending side of the photo, and do a copy and
paste to New Image, see if I can take the red out and then put it back in
position again.

Thank you, Fred.

That would work. You can get the same effect more easily by
duplicating the layer and correcting the duplicate layer. Then erase
or mask the parts where you do not want the correction to appear,
letting the original show through. That is where the "many ways to
restrict the application" come in. Keep us posted, please.
