Author Can't display palettes in PSPv10

Well, I have five days left on my free trial and I need to make an upgrade
decision. So far, the decision is easy. . .no matter what I do, I cannot get
any of the palettes to display. That will limit this program's usefulness
for me.

Suggestions?

Thanks
-Mark

Hmm. . .Ok, some of the palettes display, some don't. Is the layers palette
disabled in the trial version?

No but you may have accidentally dragged it of screen( that's for those with
more than one monitor
Steps to do first reload the default workspace. File's > Workspace > load >
select default (you will only have the one unless you created one)

If that fails then its File > Preferences > Reset Preferences check the
bottom box make all toolbars/ pallets visible and on screen. That piles them
all op in the centre and you can sort from there.
Their are other fixes But I think the first will fix it.

Ah. There's the bugger. Thanks.

So what's this about important features being sent to Death Row with
version 10? As a version 7 user, will I be hating life if I upgrade directly
to version 10? Or should I follow the advice I have heard from several
folks here and buy a copy of version 9.01?

The help files moving up from V9 tell it all.
Some of the older way of working tools and commands where placed in the
unused commands folder from where they can be brought back into use

Buying ( for peanuts has to be a good thing in any ones book Unless you need
Raw capability and 16 bits per channel colour because that's the main
difference.

I had to change the way I work with the jump from 7 to 8 I got over it .
Then assembled a new computer and as I was buying a new monitor plumped for
a Matrox G550 card to use twin screens This changed the way I work again not
much change going to 9 but some more change with X as now I can have the
browser on the second screen this has upset quiet a few because they have to
change.
OX does have some bugs so does 9 and 8 and some never fixed from 7 But
nothing drastic
I dont have a colour management problem because I dont try to have as many
profiles as pos running just the PSP wizard profile. The Tiff noted in near
posts does not effect me either on my raws from RSE converted to tiff at
200ppi and in 16 bit stay that way the one problem I do have is catching the
layer pallet and it prepares itself for renaming. If I miss that and do
something to the layer It crashes psp, easily done.
Me I'm Happy I hope it stays that way.

As Trev said, the main upgrades from v.9 to v.X are limited 16 bit
editing capability and more support for Raw files.

In v.X they took quite a few of the tools we used and incorporated
them into some of the auto tools you've likely seen in v.X. Some
of us don't think these auto tools work all that well, and many
who have kept v.X have customized their toolbars to bring back the
v.9 tools from the Unused Commands ('cause they actually prefer to
use them).

v.X also tried to implement better color management. It is
enabled by default. This has resulted in many, many complaints
and queries about why people's images look bad in PSPX, and the
most used fix is to disable color management, so this feature is
effectively broken.

The file browser in v.X has been made into a palette instead of
the regular Windows window that it is in v.9. The advantage for
some who have two monitors is that they can move this palette to a
second monitor, away from their PSP workspace in another monitor.
Because it's a palette it can be made to roll up when you move
your cursor away from it. However, until it rolls up the image
you open from the palette is hidden underneath the palette, unlike
previous browsers where it appeared on top of the palette. It's
other limitation is that you cannot drag the thumbnails around in
the palette to sort them, nor can you drag and drop them between
folders in the palette.

The Help file in v.X is substantially smaller than the one in v.9.
The printed or download manual is approximately 25% of the size of
the one in v.9. The v.X manual also does not provide support for
the tools you can liberate from the Unused Commands, so you'll
have to download the v.9 manual if you want to learn more about
them.

Your problem, if you want v.9, might be finding one. Online might
be your best bet although some retailers might have some clearance
boxed ones. After testing v.X I stayed with v.9 (which I already
had so didn't have to search for one).

That's my overview, FWIW.

Ok, that hurts. I wrote a PERL script to rename my image files
sequentially based on the order in which I arrange them
in the browser window. I suppose I could keep version 7
installed for that purpose.

Version 9 is easy to find on eBay, if you don't mind software
of dubious origin ("Retail box pictured for reference only.
You will receive a sleeved CD only. Guaranteed to register or
your money back!"

I mind.

On this ebay page I saw 3 listings offering v.9 in original box.
One was pretty pricey (about $70.00 US) and the other two near the
bottom have several days left so could get pricier than they are
at present.
