Author PSP 9 $30 rebate question

The $30 rebate for PSP 9 expires on 11/30/05. Is that the ordering date, or
when they must receive your rebate form?

I thought I'd grab the last version of PSP produced by JASC. (It'll end up
being less than $10, provided the 11/30/05 is when you must order by.) I've
already got PSP 8, and probably won't need the new stuff in PSP 9, but for
less than 10 bucks I'll pick it up anyways. It's the last version of PSP
untainted by Corel... I've heard PSP X was ruined by Corel.

You heard wrong They have not ruined it But added some new features such as
16 bit capability. No to most people a 16 bit does not look much different
to a 8 bit image especially when the monitor cal only display in 8 bit.
This big change brought its own problems as not all the filters can work in
16 bit. Corel added two quick fix filters to supposedly do everything in 16
bit and to raw digital images too. Now if you know the amount of moans when
8 was introduced and changed where all the tools where kept you will
understand why some previous users are not happy with change yet still want
new tools.

Personally PSP x suites me. But if you can get 9 for $10 grab it even if for
the digital noise reduction filter only. Its equal to the best on the market
and at a low price and the rest of the program included free. Also dont
forget your eligible for upgrade pricing

I'll kind of go with Trev on this, particularly emphasizing that,
if you can get PSP9 for $10.00 then go for it. You can't lose on
that deal.

This will give you a useable program for cheap, and still allow
you to evaluate the trial of v.X to see if you feel it's worth
something like $60.00 for the upgrade, which many of us didn't.
But the trial will allow you to make your own decision.

Where can you buy it for this price? Where can you get that rebate?

As with any answer of this kind, including my own, very subjective.

From my personal perspective, Corel have messed up badly and I won't
repeat the long list that has accumulated over the past months, as those
of us who inhabit the PSP NGs have read and re-read to boredom...

Suffice to say, considering the direction they are pushing PSP in (The
happy snapper/Elements user) Why are they bothering with 16 bit imaging,
it's a waste of resources on the happy snapper.

Raw imaging I can understand, as more and more cameras support it.

The general dumbing down of the PSP interface is to be deprecated, as is
the appalling thing they call a browser.

It's my view, and yes probably a very subjective view at that, unless
something drastic is done to reinstate PSP towards its former self, a lot
of folks, me included will end our 10+ years financial association with
PSP.
While I do have 10.01 installed, I only use it as a TOY play thing, as
trying to use it for serious work often end up in a mess due to the bugs
and failing in this version.

For any "Proper" work, I still use version 9 and probably will continue to
do so, long after Corel-PSP version whatever, finally dies of
embarrassment.

Buy.com. The best place to keep current on PSP developments and
opinions is the Corel newsgroups. http://tinyurl.com/2pt9o lists
their names, URLs, and directions for setting up the newsreader.

I'm aware of it. I avoid web forums.

It isn't a web forum - it's a usenet newsgroup like this, just on
a different server.

Ah, well, that's OK, then.

Actually, now that you remind me, I'm already registered there.

I'm afraid that link does not lead to PSP9 with a $30.00 rebate. It
leads to PSPX purchases, plus other non-psp Corel products.
