I keep getting this message when I make an alteration to a photo and try and
save. Tried uninstalling and re-installing but doesn't help. I am on PSP9
and wondered if any one can help?

PSP doesn't like it when you use archaic words like 'whilst'. Try
sticking with 'while'.

Windows is objecting. Does your Windows user account have permission
to write to the folder in question? Test that by copying something
to the folder with Explorer.

Does the error message give any information beyond "has occurred"?
Try looking at the Windows Event Viewer after the error happens for
a log entry that may shed some light.

What file format are you saving? Try a test with a different format.
Does that work?

Is your disk full? That may sound silly, but it can happen.

Thank you so much for the really helpful tip

There is definately some kind of bug in PSP9 in that area. I can
usually work around it by using a different navigation to the save
function: If I had tried "save" and it gives me that message, I then
try "save as" and make sure it's the same name and type, if that
doesn't work I try closing the picture, and so forth. Lately I've
found that "save copy as" always seems to work just fine, and that's
normally what I use.

When it does happen, it is important to open an explorer window and
keep an eye on the directory in question. PSP (Windows) will sometimes
save a zero length file there. Having had to deal with windows
directory stuff at a low level in the past, I would suspect some kind
of thread conflict going on.

Hope that helps,

Brandon

I've found two ways around the error. (1) Save the file as a PSP file,
close, open that one, save as desired format and (2) [jpeg saves, that is]
increase the compression, sometimes as little as 1-2 percent does the trick.

I've had this happen in the past. What I found was that other software had
installed their own GIF or JPG DLLs in the Windows folder and that PSP
would recognize them as new options in its own file open/save dialogues.
After much hair-pulling and insane scrutiny on what was causing it, one day
I finally noticed that I had 2 occurrences of each file-type in my PSP save
and save-as dialogues. If I selected one of them I would get the error. If
I selected the other then PSP would work just fine. When changing between
saving file formats I must have switched to the other program's GIF or JPG
filetype option without realizing I was choosing a new one (they looked
nearly alike except the description by each was slightly different or one
used Uppercase letters for its name where the other did not).

Look closely at your file-type selections in your Save and Save-As dialogue
windows for 2 jpg filetypes or 2 gif filetypes. The same ones might not be
next to each other but further down or above the one you are using. I
recall that on mine one of them was nearly 2 file-type menu scrolls away
from the other. If you find 2 each of JPG or GIF filetypes listed keep a
mental note on which one is the one that works correctly with PSP, and then
avoid using the other.

Thanks to all those who replied.I have come to the conclusion that it is a
bug and I can't do much about it so reverting back to my PSP version 8. It
has been very frustrating to have carried out work to the image and find I
lose it all when it doesn't save.

I'm sorry to hear it. This user-to-user group is not the best place
for debugging. Fortunately for the rest of us, it is not a problem
with PSP on other machines. If you have access to another computer,
try a test installation of PSP 9 and its patches to demonstrate this
for yourself. You can also call tech support for assistance

write the E-mail Corel tab at http://support.corel.com, or just give
up.

Thanks Fred
May give up for the moment but when a little more time look into it and try
the support through the contact info you give.
