Author PSP 9.01 Error on Opening Files

Help!! :-)... I think I've tried everything, but this one has me
fuming. What a nuisance!!

I get the following error message when I double-click on a PSP.JPG
file.

Cannot find the file "....."(or one of its components). Make sure the
path and filename are correct and that all libraries are available.

PaintShop Pro 9.01
Windows 2000
JPG files show the PSP "pallet and brush" logo. The same behavior for
"tif", "pspimage", "jpg" and "JPG" file types.

I've followed advise from the Corel site but can't get this problem
resolved.

Your wisdom and help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Roger

Which advise?
Is this a new install or has it just begun to happen to PSP 9?

The advise that I am aware of was the Registry edit of placing a space and
number 9 to the end of the Paint shop pro string.

The following procedure should fix the association with Paint Shop Pro 9 and
allow right click > open with > Paint Shop Pro 9 to function properly:
NOTE: Before you begin with the process detailed below remember that
instructions for editing the registry are intended for experienced users
only.
The Windows Registry is at the core of the operating system. Errors made in
editing the registry could damage your Operating System beyond repair
resulting in loss of data and a required reinstallation of the OS. When in
the
Registry Editor, if you make a mistake that you're aware of, immediately
turn the machine off. Do NOT close the registry editor, do NOT go to
START>>SHUTDOWN simply hit the switch to turn of the machine or cut off
power to
it. This will cause Windows to load from the backup registry that it makes
every time it shuts down properly, hence the mistake that you made will not
have saved in the registry and your machine should boot as it did previous
to your editing. If you are not comfortable with editing the registry you
should take these instructions to an experienced Windows technician or
contact the Corel Technical Support Team at 952-930-9171 who will be happy
to
walk you through the process of editing the registry.
1. Close Paint Shop Pro.
2. Click on Start > Run
3. In the RUN dialog box, erase anything that is currently in the Open:
field, and then Type in CMD (for Windows NT/XP or 2000) or Command (for
Windows
95/98/ME) and click Ok.
4. In the DOS/terminal window that opens, type in regedit and then push the
Enter key. This will open the Registry Editor.
5. When the Registry Editor opens, click Registry > Export Registry File
(Windows XP users click on File > Export), choose a filename and location to
save the file, and then click the save button to save the file. The program
will automatically add a REG extension on to the specified filename. This
file can serve as a backup if necessary. After this backup procedure, we can
move on to deleting the particular registry key.
6. Begin by Clicking the plus sign next to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. You will see a
list of KEYS drop down underneath this KEY.
7. Scroll down until you find a KEY named Applications. Click on the plus
sign next to Applications.
8.You will see a list of KEYS drop down underneath the Applications KEY.
Locate the KEY named Paint Shop Pro 9.exe
9. Click the plus sign next to the Paint Shop Pro 9.exe KEY. You will see a
Shell KEY listed underneath this KEY.
10. Click the plus sign next to the Shell KEY. You will see an Open KEY
listed underneath this KEY.
11. Click the plus sign next to the Open KEY. You will see ddeexec KEY
listed
underneath this KEY.
12. Click the Plus next to the ddeexec KEY. You will see an Application KEY
listed underneath this KEY.
13. Click on the Application KEY to highlight it.
14. On the right side pane, you will note a header labeled Default. Double
left click on Default to open an Edit String dialog.
15. It should have a Value data of Paint Shop Pro. Change this to Paint Shop
Pro 9 (adding a space and the number 9 to the end of Paint Shop Pro).
16. Click OK to accept
17. Close the Registry Editor by clicking the X in the upper right corner.
Attempt to use the Right click > Open With > Paint Shop Pro 9.
Please let me know if this doesn't resolve the issue.

Well, I'm part way there. The process you recommended did allow me to
use the "right click" > "open with" "Paint Shop Pro 9".

However, the double click on a "JPG" file still give the "not found"
error when PSP9 opens.

I'm able to open the file from the PSP9 browser, or the PSP9 "File" >
"Open" menu operation, just not from a "double click" on the
appropriate file type.

Thanks for the help,
Roger
