Author Files to be backed up?

I was thinking of trying out PSP9, upgrading from 7. Do I need to back up
everything from my brushes, patterns, etc. in order to do it? Will 9
overwrite my files? Will I have to clean out my registry files?

Also. my auto save function isn't working properly. The dialog box tells me
that auto save file is not valid or has been damaged. Is there anyway to
cure this or do I need to reinstall the program? Again, what do I need to
save?

Yes, there is a way to cure it. Delete the corrupted
autosave file.

I don't understand the question. File > Save is the
obvious answer but I suspect you mean something else.

9 will install to its own directory. You can infact use both at the same
time without conflict. so you have no need to uninstall 7. Untill you have
got used to it

As for the corrupt auto save file. You need to delete it and then you will
have no further trouble. If you look in preferences file locations undo and
temp tag it will show you where its stored, normally in your temp's folder

Thank you both. That was very helpful. I'm so glad it was a simple fix to
both my questions. :)

You poor girl.

:-)

Do I need to back up

You should do an entire system back-up before installing Jasc/Corel
software.
