Author Help: Perparing JPG's for slide show

I'm preparing images to burn as a slide show on DVD (using Nero 6). It's
several JPG's of family members and relatives. The photos will have black
caption bars along the bottom where the subject's name is present in white
text.

The problem, though, is that all the photos are different sizes/resolutions
(72ppi, 100ppi, 300ppi, etc.). With these criteria, the photos must all be
in correct proportion, BUT the caption bar *must* always be the same size on
screen. As far as measurement is concerned, would I prepare these images in
pixels or inches?

I would like all photos to look their best when previewing on screen. Any
help is appreciated. Thanks!
