*** Jasc sells out to Corel! ****

| Just today I read that Jasc, Inc. famed maker of PaintShop Pro has
sold out to Corel, Inc. - not-so-famed maker of relatively unknown
software (at least to me :) )
Sad is that this sell-out may affect current users of PSP and related
products in a negative way. Although the FAQs state Corel will
continue to support the PSP product line, it would not be the first
time that a buyer of a company fabricates and lies to lure users of
the current product into a new line of products.
I actually belive it's more likely Corel will 'delete' PSP and compile
features of PSP into its own program, called PhotoPaint.
Right now, I'd hold-off on purchasing any further products from JASC,
as these may soon become worthless.

So you are under the impression that Jasc products will cease to function?
LOL

If it is a good program how can it become worthless? You'll always have it
to use even if another upgrade is never offered. Just make sure to save any
patches on a CD in case you ever need to re-install the program. I'm still
using a few very good obsolete programs and they still work after several
upgrades to windows.

Boy, you said it there mister. I hope that what you and I are thiking is all
wrong, but I suppose we can only wait and see. I am really disappointed to
think that JASC would sell out. I am, surprisingly, taking it kind of
personally and it pisses me off.

I know what you meant, not necessarily how it reads.
Though I still have all of my old versions and am really not all that
thrilled about the thought that we may lose out to big business when it
comes to updates and upgrades. Dang, I hope it doesn't work out that way.

| Haven't you all heard of Painter? The best art program bar none. Corel
produce that having bought it from macromedia etc etc.
If PSP is any good it will survive. If it's not, it won't. Simple really.
It's a built in feature of capitalism

Your right about survival of the fittest, trouble is, I was wanting
more and more good painting tools in PSP, but in Corel, they already
have a painting program, so psp is gonna be for grandma.

I've used Word Perfect (for the Word-phobic) and Corel Draw (which I
acquired at the same time as PSP5) for years. Not unknown, just for those
of refined taste.

Corel was bought by a California holding company last year. I suspect
that they acutally made the purchase and we may see a Roxio-like setup,
where they are maintained as seperate divisions under the Corel banner.
Certainly Roxio hasn't tried to merge the best features of their minor
lines into their main products.

Quattor Pro could be a little better, but I like Word Perfect and Corel
Draw a lot. Photo Paint needs a thorough makeover.
I'm basically a Corel fan, considering the alternatives, and their prices.

| I was using Paint Shop Pro before Jasc bought it and I have been using Corel
products since Ver. 3.0 and am on version 12.0. They are both great products
and I use them both exclusively to other "Adobe" products out there. If the
great features of PSP could be incorporated into Corel's Photo Paint then
that would be great as I find PP to be hard to use and I rarely crack it
open unless it is to use a feature that it has that PSP doesn't. CorelDraw
and Photo Paint are tightly bound together and it would be nice to not have
to go "outside" the box so to speak to get all the great tools that PSP
offers. On the other hand you can't buy Photo Paint as a stand along product
and this is where I believe that PSP will become an attractive add on to
Corels line of products. Only time will tell but I hope that the merger will
make both product lines better

Jasc did not buy Paint Shop Pro from anyone. Bob Voit, the
former owner of Jasc Software Inc., wrote the first version
of the program himself as a file format converter. It grew
from there and became Paint Shop Pro, a product of Jasc
Software Inc. owned by Bob Voit. He sold his company to
Corel, in which he now has a share.

Bob may be a nice guy, but he sure is a lousy business man.
:-)
Bob's way: If you can't keep a company afloat, sell it fast.
