I've got ATI Wonder 7500 card, Premiere 6.5 and I'm trying to capture
from my old 8mm camcorder to burn to DVDs. How do I get 6.5 to
recognize the camcorder. I have no problem with my trv 900 (firewire)
which by-the-way is an unbelievable vcamera but don't know what to do to
capture analog.

Premiere will not see your analog camcorder... but you can capture
through an analog capture device. The other option would be to
connect your analog camcorder to your Digital camcorder (through the
analog ins - and connect the digital camcorder via fireware) Use your
digital camcorder to do real time analog to DV conversion and capture
that stream to your hard drive. One precaution... the time code won't
be going in the capture window, but your "frames captured" will add up
like usual. The TRV900 should be able to do the analog to dv
conversion....

Thanks for the info. Zebulon. But why is that? When other less
expensive/professional packages do this with no problem. Isn't there
drivers or add-ons that can help? In any case thanks for the help.

I can't think of a single instance over the years where any software
I've used recognized what the anolog in "source" was... now I've
always been able to choose between composite/s-vid/ or even tuners,
but nothing else... so maybe I'm missing something. Even the Media
100's I used to use had no clue what the analog source was, just
needed to know composite or s-vid... (Believe it or not, we used GL-1s
hooked up through the composite connectors... because our ancient
Media 100 software didn't support firewire.... on a MAC! that being
said, the machine and software still worked well, and as designed) As
for other options, you might be able to use software that will control
the camera through the little mini-plug connector (Lanc) to shuttle
and select ins and outs for capturing. Otherwise, I hope someone else
will shed a little light on the subject.
