I am just starting to use my Premiere 6.5 and am getting hung up
breaking my videos into scenes. I'm having to log each scene and this
is driving me crazy! At the rate I'm going, it will take me years to
be able to work with the tapes I have made over 15 years. Do later
versions of Premiere incorporate automatic scene detection? Or does
anyone have suggestions on how to get around this?

I'm using 6.5 and need same thing.

Here's post from Adobe website - appears that PRO has scene detection.

"Recorders, device controllers - Scene detection has improved, and there is
no longer any need to shuttle between scenes. This improvement required an
API change that must be made by recorders that support scene capturing.
Third-party device control can now be paired with the built-in DV recorder.
An API version identifier has been added to the device controller API.
Recorders and device controllers developed for 1.0 may not need to be
updated for 1.5, but should be tested."

Yes, Premiere PRO 1.5 has wonderful scene detection (except for the clip
naming).

You can even do scene detection from In to Out rather than just the whole
tape.

Only works on DV camcorders that record the datetime stamp on the tape
(99.999% but I thought I'd warn you).
