Author undocking palettes in mac cs2

i am going nuts trying to figure out how to ungroup docked palettes, eg,
colar is docked to swatches/brushes is docked to stroke/grad/trans... i
have a dim recollection of there being a key/mouse click combination
that did the trick in 10... did i dream this up? just to review i reset
my workspace to default, and these guys are stuck together there too...

any input appreciated.
